Energy Bill Relief Fund

This page has information on the Energy Bill Relief Fund, which ended on 31 December 2025. Check if you're eligible for other electricity and gas concessions, grants or rebates

Who was eligible?

The Australian Government provided $3.5 billion to extend and expand the Energy Bill Relief Fund and provide relief to eligible households and small businesses through electricity bill rebates in the 2024–25 financial year.

If you’re in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia or Victoria, this information is for you. If you’re in Western Australia, visit your state government website for information on assistance for electricity bills.

Households

All residential households with an active electricity account were eligible to receive a rebate in the 2024–25 financial year. Customer accounts with multiple addresses only received the rebate once.

Businesses

To be eligible your business had to:

  • be on a separately metered business tariff
  • use less electricity than the yearly threshold set for your state. The thresholds are:

    • New South Wales - 100MWh
    • Queensland - 100MWh
    • South Australia - 160MWh
    • Victoria - 40MWh.

Each business customer only received one payment, even if you had more than one business or site.

How much people received

Households - up to $150 in quarterly instalments credited to your electricity account.

Businesses - up to $150 in quarterly instalments credited to your electricity account.

For more information, visit the Australian government's Energy Bill Relief Fund page.

How and when payments were applied

For most households and businesses, relief payments were applied directly to the electricity account so there was nothing you needed to do.

If you were a household or business in an embedded network, how your relief payment is was paid depends on your state.
