Getting connected with AGL mobile

We understand a lot of Australians are anxious to get in touch with friends and loved ones in Ukraine right now. That's why we’re helping where we can. 

From 1 March 2022 to 31 March 2022, we’ll credit back any calls and SMSs made to Ukraine from AGL mobile services.

Your AGL SIM will be sent within 2 business days in standard mail. It can take 5-10 business days for it to arrive depending on your location. 

For a new mobile number
If you’ve ordered a new mobile number with your AGL service, you don’t need to activate your SIM, we’ll activate it for you. All you need to do is insert your new AGL SIM into your mobile device. Activation usually happens on the day it arrives, but it can take 1-2 business days after arrival. We’ll send you an SMS confirmation once it’s activated.

If you’re keeping your existing number
Go to the Activate SIM page when your SIM arrives, then follow the prompts to activate your service.  Activation usually happens within 1 hour, but can take 1-2 business days. 

If you bring your own device, make sure it’s not locked to other networks and is compatible with the Optus network. With 3G devices, you can access the 3G (UMTS 900 MHz) network only. From May 2022, Optus will be shutting down the 2100 MHz part of its 3G mobile network. With 4G devices and a compatible plan, you can access 3G network plus some or all of the 4G Plus network.

Your AGL SIM card will be a multi-fit SIM card, which will fit most standard phones.

Depending on your phone, you'll need to carefully snap out the SIM card to either a standard, micro or nano SIM. To find out which size SIM card your phone needs, refer to the instruction manual for your phone or contact the manufacturer. Learn more about AGL SIM cards and compatible phones

 

International calls may or may not be included in your AGL mobile SIM only plan, depending on the plan you're on. For details on rates and charges, take a look at your plan's Critical Information Summary (CIS) and view our International Call Rates.

 

Things to know

AGL combined Energy and Mobile SIM-only plan offer: Monthly discount appears on your AGL telecommunications bill. If you leave your energy plan(s), the discount will no longer apply from the following billing period.

Optus Mobile Network: Our AGL mobile SIM Plans are available on the Optus mobile network. COVERAGE: With 3G devices, you can access the 3G (UMTS 900 MHz) network. From May 2022, Optus will be shutting down part of its 3G mobile network (specifically, the 2100 MHz band). With 4G devices and a compatible plan, you can access the 3G network plus some or all of the 4G Plus network. Optus 4G Plus network uses multiple frequencies (LTE 700 /1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage. The Optus 4G Plus network is available in all capital cities and hundreds of metro, regional and holiday towns with a compatible device and plan. Coverage and speed will vary by device and location. Check coverage at agl.com.au/get-connected/mobile-plans/network-coverage based on your address. If you bring your own device, make sure it’s not locked to other networks and is compatible with the Optus network.

Calls, SMS and MMS to standard Australian numbers: Your allowance can be used for standard landline, mobile and 13/1300/1800 numbers, voicemail retrievals/deposits and voicemail diversions. Acceptable Use Policy applies.

Data: All data is for use in Australia. All unused data (including Data Boosts) expires at the end of each billing period. Data is counted in kilobytes and includes uploads and downloads.

Data boosts and additional data: If you use more data than your allowance, we'll automatically give you a 1GB Data Boost for $10, up to 3GB in a billing period. Once you've reached that limit, you won't be able to use additional data for the rest of the billing period. You may be charged for any additional data used ($0.01 per MB block) for a limited time before we discontinue your data access. If you'd like to continue using additional data ($0.01 per MB block), call 1300 361 676.

Data allowance: Cost to use 1MB of data allowance in Australia when you don't also have AGL Energy (1MB=1,042KB); Extra Small plan ($0.00488/MB), Small plan ($0.00163/MB), Medium plan ($0.00085/MB), Large plan ($0.00044/MB).

Calls to standard international numbers: Medium and Large plans include an allowance that can be used for standard landline and mobile numbers in overseas destinations. Once you've used all your allowance, pay as you go rates apply. For pay as you go rates, view our International Call Rates.
