What’s included in all our SIM plans
5G is the next generation of mobile technology currently rolling out across the country.² All new AGL Mobile SIM plans come with 5G access on compatible devices.
Super-fast speeds
The 5G mobile network will give you fast speeds, so you can stream more, game faster and connect better.
Fewer interruptions
Get a smoother video and audio experience. With lower latency and greater responsiveness, 5G has huge potential to change how we connect, do business, stream and game.
If you are currently on an older 4G-only Mobile SIM plan and would like to upgrade to a current plan, please contact us.
For your phone to be compatible with an AGL mobile SIM plan make sure:
Your phone is unlocked
To be compatible for AGL SIM plans, you’ll need a phone that works with the Optus Network and isn’t locked to another network.
Your phone takes a physical SIM card or eSIM
You can choose between a physical SIM card or eSIM online when you order a mobile plan.
Make sure you choose a type of SIM that’s compatible with your phone. To check if a type of physical SIM card is compatible with your phone, check your phone’s instruction manual or contact the manufacturer.
To access 5G, you’ll also need:
With any of our mobile SIM plans, you can choose either a physical SIM card or an eSIM.
Newer smartphones, like some iPhone 17 models, are only compatible with an eSIM and do not take a physical SIM card. If your phone is eSIM-only, you’ll need to opt to choose an eSIM when you order your plan with us.
eSIM is the latest in SIM technology. It’s like an electronic SIM card built directly into compatible phones.
Fast activation.
No more waiting around for a physical SIM to arrive. Scan the QR code in your welcome email and follow the prompts to activate your eSIM. It’s that easy.
Two numbers. One phone.
Depending on your phone’s capabilities, you can set up 2 numbers on one phone. For example, you could choose to have one number for work and one for personal use.
Kinder to the planet.
eSIMs use less plastic and they don’t need to be delivered, making them a responsible choice with less impact on the planet.
More Secure.
Your eSIM is directly linked to your device and cannot be removed or stolen.
We’ll send your AGL SIM card within 2 business days. Delivery can take 5-10 business days, depending on where you are. If it doesn’t arrive after 2 weeks, please get in touch.
You’ll be able to carefully snap out your AGL SIM card to fit either a standard, micro or nano SIM. To find out which size SIM card your phone needs, check your phone’s instruction manual or contact the manufacturer.
Existing mobile numbers: Simply log into My Account when your SIM arrives and follow the prompts to activate your SIM. Activation usually happens within 1 hour, but can take 1-2 business days.
We’ll send you a welcome email with a QR code you can use to set up your SIM. Or you can activate your SIM in My Account or the AGL app.
Our tip: Keep your old SIM card until it stops working. That's when you'll know your new SIM is ready for use.
International calls to eligible countries from Australia may be included in your AGL mobile SIM only plan. For details on rates and charges, view your plan's Critical Information Summary (CIS) and our Mobile international Call Rates.

You’ll need a 5G compatible device. Coverage and speed will vary depending on your device and location and subject to 5G speed caps. When not in an Optus 5G Network coverage area, compatible devices will switch to the Optus 4G Plus Network where available. Check coverage based on your address.
