Setting up an electricity budget in the AGL app

How to set up and manage an electricity budget in the app, to track your usage and spending.

How does a budget work in the AGL app?

If you have electricity with a digital meter, you can set a budget in the AGL app for your total bill. When you turn on notifications, we’ll notify you when you reach 50%, 85% and 100% of your budget.

The budget does not impact your bill for the cycle, it only helps you to track your electricity costs.

How to set up a budget

Set your budget amount

  1. Open the AGL app and go to Overview.
  2. Under the address you want to set a budget for, select Electricity .
  3. Below the blue usage graph, select Manage Budget.
  4. Tap the text box and enter a budget. We’ll show your bill projection as a guide.
  5. Select Set budget.

Turn on budget notifications

  1. After you select Set budget, a pop up will ask you to turn on budget update notifications.
  2. Select Notification Settings.
  3. In your AGL App notification settings, turn on Budget Updates.
  4. If AGL app notifications are turned off in your device settings, you’ll need to turn them on first.

What we track your budget against

If you turn budget notifications on, we’ll send notifications based on your cost so far. This is calculated including usage charges, supply charges, and any applicable solar, demand or green charges, along with GST.

Notifications may be a bit behind your most recent usage, because the data usually takes around 2 days to process.

Editing or removing your budget

  1. Open the AGL app and go to Overview.
  2. Select Electricity.
  3. Below the blue usage graph, select Manage Budget.
  4. Select Edit budget.
  5. Enter a new budget amount, then select Set budget.

  1. Open the AGL app and go to Overview.
  2. Select Electricity.
  3. Below the blue usage graph, select Manage Budget.
  4. Select Remove budget.
  5. Confirm by selecting Remove.

After removing it, you won’t receive any new budget notifications (unless some have already been triggered and haven’t reached you yet). You can set a new budget at any time.

What to do if you reach your budget

Your budget does not impact your bill, so you might spend more on electricity than your budget.
