Frequently asked questions about our nbn plans

AGL internet

On 15 September 2025, we increased the upload and download speeds of our Home Fast, Superfast, and Ultrafast plans.

If you’re on one of these plans, your speeds have automatically been increased at no extra cost.

Home Fast and Home Fast Plus

The new speeds for our Home Fast plan, as well as our Home Fast Plus plan for eligible customers, are only available if you have an HFC or FTTP nbn connection. If you didn’t get the speed increase, enter your address above to check your connection type and see if you're eligible for a $0 upgrade to FTTP.

Not getting the full speed?

If you're on an eligible plan but you’re not getting the full speed, it could be an issue with your Wi-Fi router. Speak to our friendly tech support team and we’ll help you sort it out.

Call us on 131 245.

The speed of your internet connection depends on a number of factors including:

  • your type of connection, (FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB, FW or HFC)
  • modem quality
  • in-home cabling
  • distance between your modem and Wi-Fi devices
  • electrical and Wi-Fi channel interference
  • number of devices connected
  • FW (fixed wireless) connections can also be affected by cell congestion, distance from a fixed wireless tower and hot weather or heavy rain.

nbn outages and service issues can also affect your nbn speeds. Check the status of your service by visiting nbn outages and network status.

You can add a Home Phone plan from $10 a month and make unlimited calls anywhere in Australia. You’ll need an AGL supplied TP-Link modem (no BYO modem with Home Phone plan). The minimum cost of this plan is $159 ($10/mth + $149 modem cost).

Our plans use VoIP technology, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically, it allows you to make phone calls using your internet connection (just like when you use programs like Skype).

When you make calls with a traditional landline, you’re using a wired connection. With a home phone plan using VoIP, your conversation is transmitted digitally.

Modems and devices

Bringing your own modem

You can bring your own modem (BYO) if you're not connecting a home phone with us and your modem is:

  • compatible with the nbn network and your nbn connection type
  • not locked to another internet provider
  • capable of supporting the connection speeds for the plan you choose (otherwise you may experience slower speeds).

If you need help connecting your BYO modem, view the setup instructions.

Buying a modem or device from us

Once you’ve chosen an AGL nbn plan and depending on your connection type, you can buy an eero modem or eero modem pack outright from $210 or a TP-Link modem outright for $149. Monthly payments over 12 months are also available at no extra cost.

Get a modem for 50% off with your nbn plan

For a limited time, enjoy 50% off modem device costs when you sign up to an nbn plan and add an eero 7 or TP Link device. You’ll get 50% off the monthly cost of the modem.

If you buy a modem on a 12- or 24-month payment plan and cancel early:

  • You'll need to pay your remaining Device Charges based on the full price of the device, not the discounted price (prorated to the day of cancellation).
  • This will appear as a lump sum on your next bill, together with your monthly nbn plan fee.²

View Device Payment Plan terms.

For example:

  • You could purchase an eero 7 device on a 12-month device payment plan. You'll get the device for $8.75 a month and the total cost would be $105, instead of the full price of $210.
  • If you cancel your device payment plan or your nbn plan early, your Remaining Device Charges will be based on the full price of $17.50 a month for the remaining months, not the discounted $8.75 a month.
  • So, if you have 5 months left in your device payment plan, your Remaining Device Charges would be $87.50 ($17.50 x 5) plus your monthly nbn plan fee.

Good to know

We do not offer eero devices to customers with Fibre to the Building (FTTB) or Fibre to the Node (FTTN) connection types, or to customers who have added a Home Phone service to their nbn plan. For these customers we offer the TP-Link VX230v.

AGL supplied modems are only available for purchase when you sign up to an AGL nbn plan. They can't be purchased separately.

Please refer to the table to see what modem and device is available.

You can purchase eero 7 devices with Mesh Wi-Fi in packs of 2 or 3, depending on your connection type and the nbn plan you select.

Eero devices use a Mesh Wi-Fi system. This helps the devices to work together to create a stable connection throughout your home, preventing dropouts and dead zones.

  • 2 devices covers homes up to 370m².
  • 3 devices covers homes up to 560m2.

Fibre upgrade

nbn co is currently rolling out a program in selected areas across Australia so that more customers get access to full fibre.

This means addresses connected to the nbn network via Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), may be eligible to upgrade their connection type to full fibre, also known as Fibre to the Premise (FTTP).

Upgrading to FTTP will give you access to a more reliable network and higher speed plans, which means you can do more online with less interruptions, including:

  • have multiple people online at the same time
  • work from home and make video calls
  • stream high-definition video (4K)
  • play online games

Are you eligible for a fibre upgrade?

To check your eligibility simply enter your address at the top of the page.

If you’re eligible, we’ll automatically let you know your connection type and if a fibre upgrade is available.

Fibre upgrade installation process

If you order a plan with a fibre upgrade, we’ll arrange an appointment with an nbn technician so they can start the installation process.

Your first appointment usually takes place within 7 days of your order.

You’ll receive an SMS within an hour of your order with all the details of your first appointment and how to reschedule it. If you miss an appointment, you may incur a fee.

Someone over the age of 18 will need to be home at the time.
