Getting connected with AGL internet

Once you sign up, we'll begin processing your connection. Depending on your connectivity type and previous installations, an nbn technician appointment may be required. We'll let you know and provide details of the appointment if needed. 

If a technician appointment isn't required, hang tight. We'll arrange to get you connected remotely and dispatch your modem, if it's been ordered. We'll keep you posted on the progress and provide a connection date as soon as possible.

You can receive either a Comnect DS244WTV modem or a Netcomm NF18MESH modem from us (depending on the modem availability) for $0 if you stay connected with us for 12 months. The usual cost for either this modem is $8/month for 12 months ($96 in total). If you cancel your nbn plan before 12 months, you'll need to pay the remaining modem cost ($8 x months left) on your next bill as a lump sum.

If you’re bringing your own modem, you'll need to ensure it’s compatible with the nbn network and follow any requirements or directions provided by us or nbn co. Check with your modem manufacturer if you're unsure about compatibility.

The speed of your internet connection depends on a number of factors including:

  • your type of connection, (FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB, FW or HFC)
  • modem quality
  • in-home cabling
  • distance between your modem and Wi-Fi devices
  • electrical and Wi-Fi channel interference
  • number of devices connected.

Fixed Wireless connections can also be affected by cell congestion.

Our plans use VoIP technology, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically, it allows you to make phone calls using your internet connection (just like when you use programs like Skype).

When you make calls with a traditional landline, you’re using a wired connection. With a home phone plan using VoIP, your conversation is transmitted digitally.

If your address is connected to the nbn™ network using a Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connection, we’re currently not able to provide you with an nbn service due to a global shortage of available chipsets for HFC NTD boxes experienced by nbn co. At this stage, nbn co expects this situation to be resolved on the 26th of July 2021 and won’t be able to service your address until this is resolved.

Moving to a new HFC property

If you’re planning on moving to a new property with HFC, you may be serviceable if the HFC has previously been connected to the nbn™ network. If your property is being connected to the nbn network for the first time and we won’t have an order in the system already, your address won’t be able to get connected at this time.

You’ll be able to find details on whether your premises will be impacted by checking your address on nbn plans.

Other internet providers

Due to the fact that this is an issue with nbn co directly and not the internet service provider, other providers offering nbn HFC services will also be affected.

I’m currently connected to HFC

For customers already connected to the nbn HFC network, your service will remain unaffected. If you’re experiencing any technical issues with your current service, get in touch with us, as nbn co will still be able to provide replacements and repairs of existing nbn HFC connections (where required).

Typical download speeds for our nbn plans (7pm-11pm) may increase or decrease over time and aren’t guaranteed minimum speeds. 

Home Phone plans

The AGL Home Phone service is optional and requires an eligible AGL nbn™ internet plan, an AGL supplied modem and a BYO compatible VoIP handset.
