Community Power

AGL Community Power: energy for everyone

Not everyone is fortunate enough to access the benefits of solar. By launching initiatives that benefit people in the community, we’re trying to change that.

Projects we're powering

See how we’re sharing the benefits with those who don't have solar or batteries.

Things you should know

A VPP is a network of solar batteries installed on residential homes. When the electricity grid needs help, a small amount of energy can be drawn from each battery to create a large pool of energy that can be used to support the grid.

Systems installed on residential properties are owned and managed by AGL. This means:

  • we take care of the solar installation, maintenance and servicing at no cost to you
  • while you participate in the SA VPP, you’ll get very low-cost electricity rates no matter the time of day
  • you’re unable to receive a solar feed-in tariff or free energy during the day.

We’ll reconfigure the system we installed on your property to support the grid and wider local community. Although the system remains on your property, you’ll no longer get discounted electricity rates or 24/7 backup power protection during outages.
