Move house

How to get your electricity and gas connected when you’re moving into a new or new-to-you home.

You've got enough to worry about when moving house so here's exactly what you need to know about getting your electricity or gas connected.

Choose your plan

You can check the energy plans that are available in your area on Energy Plans page by entering your address details.

Moving house with your AGL Netflix Plan

For information on moving house on the AGL Netflix Plan, visit AGL Netflix Plan.

Arrange your connection

If you're an existing customer, you can arrange your move in My Account by selecting the 'Move home' button. You're also able to arrange your move on Book your move.

From there you'll be able to select your plan and check your address for specific rates, then complete the sign-up process. To have your electricity connected on the next business day, you'll need to call our sales team before 1 pm AEST, Monday to Friday.

We require 1 business day's notice (before 1pm) for electricity connections and 3 business days for gas.

Disconnect your previous services

If you're an existing AGL customer, you'll be able to choose through the sign-up process to automatically disconnect your old address on your specified date.

If you're new to AGL, you'll need to contact your previous provider to disconnect your old address.

To learn more about our disconnection process and how our Virtual Assistant can help, visit Electricity and gas disconnections.

Track the progress

We'll send you a confirmation email with a reference number and a link to track your connection. You'll also be able to log in to My Account then select 'Track my move' to view details of your connection date and the progress.

On the confirmed date, we'll arrange for your distributor to connect the electricity or gas.

Get your place ready

To make sure your new home is ready to be connected, you'll need to:

  • Make sure there's clear access to your electricity and gas meters  (for details on how to find your meter go to Read your meter)
  • Your main electrical switch is set to 'off'

Please note that if you live in Queensland and you're getting your electricity connected, you'll need to be at home.

Switch on the power

After the connection has been completed, be sure to check that your main switch is in the 'on' position.

Move day connection issues

If your move day connection should have been up and running by now, please check the main electrical switch is on first, then get in touch with our team. With our Power on Guarantee, if your power isn't on the agreed day, we'll cover your related expenses up to $500 a day until it's on. That's our guarantee.

Still need to organise a connection? You can book your move online or get in contact with our team.

Moving into a property with solar

If you've recently moved into a property with solar, check out our Solar Savers plan which offers a higher feed-in tariff.

You do not need to specifically sign up to a solar plan if you have solar panels. As long as you have a working system, you'll receive our standard feed-in tariff at a minimum. If at any time of the day your system generates more power than you're using, the surplus is exported to the grid.

Some customers are better off on Solar Savers whilst others are better off on a different energy plan depending on their consumption and how much excess solar they export to the grid. To find out which plan is best for you, got to Energy Plans or contact us. Energy Fact Sheets and Basic Plan Information Documents are available.
