South Australian Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS)

REPS helps South Australian households and businesses become more energy efficient.

Save money with free and discounted energy efficiency solutions

South Australians can reduce their energy use as part of the South Australian Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS). As a participant in this government scheme, we’re committed to helping South Australians get more value from their energy.

Together with our representatives, MAC Trade Services and Ecovantage, we’re helping businesses and households improve energy efficiency with the help of energy efficient products. You could save money on upgrade costs, and reduce the size of electricity bills.

What is REPS?

The Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) replaced the Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) on 1 January 2021. Like the REES, the new scheme provides incentives for South Australian households and businesses to save energy. In addition, the REPS aims to optimise the state-wide use of energy, supporting demand management and demand response activities for households and small businesses.

For AGL, REPS has a 50% focus on households, including low-income and those experiencing financial vulnerability.

REPS one-off payment of $33

Customers who aren’t a Priority Group Household must pay a once-off REPS fee of $33 per site. This will be registered as paid with the Essential Services Commission of SA (ESCOSA), so that, if you have further activity done under REPS at the same premises, there is no need to pay an additional $33 REPS fee.

REPS eligibility

Your household may be eligible for REPS-discounted appliances, such as a hot water system or air conditioner upgrade.

There are also demand response and solar-battery options available. Demand response activities are those where you are rewarded for lowering your electricity use at peak times.

Businesses may be eligible for discounted LED highbay, fluro tube, downlight and flood light replacements. Click below for more information.

Except for Priority Group customers (see below for definition), all customers must pay a once-off REPS fee of $33 per site. This means that, if you wish to have your old non-LED lights or your hot water system replaced, you will need to pay the installer a once-off $33 contribution. This will be registered as paid with the Essential Services Commission of SA, so that, if you subsequently wish to have your hot water system replaced under REPS, there is no need to pay an additional $33 REPS fee.

Additionally, a household is only eligible to have the product replaced once under REPS. So, if you have more than one air conditioner or hot water service at the property, those must be replaced on the same day to be eligible for REPS credits.

All businesses in SA are eligible for REPS upgrades, with the following conditions:

  • There is a limit of 20,000 GJ equivalent claimable under REPS, lighting upgrade activities in no more than 2 visits.
  • The same product cannot be replaced twice under REPS.
  • Products must be accredited and installed by an AGL-partner representative.
  • All sites, except large energy users, incur a once-off REPS fee of $33 per site. This means that, if you wish to upgrade more than one product at the site using REPS credits, only one $33 REPS fee will be incurred. This will be registered as paid with the Essential Services Commission of SA, so that, if you subsequently upgrade other equipment under REPS, there is no need to pay an additional $33 REPS fee.
  • Large energy users are required to pay a minimum of $1.70 per GJ equivalent for their upgrades. For more information view Commercial lighting upgrade activities.

Government-owned public or community residential premises may be eligible for some REPS activities. To find out whether you’re eligible and what activities are available to you, please contact one of our business REPS partners:
