Getting connected with AGL mobile

Connecting to AGL mobile is easy. Our SIM cards are sent out within 2 business days in standard mail. It can take between 5-10 business days for it to arrive depending on your location.

After receiving your SIM card, activate your service using the instructions that came with it. Activation of your new service can take as little as 1 hour, but as long as 1-2 business days.

 

If you bring your own device, make sure it’s not locked to other networks and is compatible with the Optus network. With 3G devices, you can access 3G (UMTS 2100 MHz / 900 MHz) network. With 4G devices and a compatible plan, you can access 3G network plus some or all of the 4G Plus network.

Your AGL SIM card will be a multi-fit SIM card, which will fit most standard phones. 

Depending on your phone, you'll need to carefully snap out the SIM card to either a standard, micro or nano SIM. To find out which size SIM card your phone needs, refer to the instruction manual for your phone or contact the manufacturer.

Things to know

SIM plan offer: discount appears on your AGL Telecommunications bill. If you leave your energy plan(s), the discount will no longer apply from the end of your billing period.

Coverage: Check your coverage based on your address. If you bring your own device, make sure it’s not locked to other networks and is compatible with the Optus network. With 3G devices, you can access 3G (UMTS 2100 MHz / 900 MHz) network. With 4G devices and a compatible plan, you can access 3G network plus some or all of the 4G Plus network. Optus 4G Plus network uses multiple frequencies (LTE 700 /1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage. The Optus 4G Plus network is available in all capital cities and hundreds of metro, regional and holiday towns with a compatible device and plan. Coverage and speed will vary by device and location. 

Calls, SMS and MMS to standard Australian numbers: your allowance can be used for standard landline, mobile and 13/1300/1800 numbers, voicemail retrievals/deposits and voicemail diversions. Acceptable Use Policy applies.

Data: all data is for use in Australia. All unused data (including Data Boosts) expires at the end of each billing period. Data is counted in kilobytes and includes uploads and downloads.

Data boosts and additional data: if you use more data than your allowance, we'll automatically give you a 1GB Data Boost for $10, up to 3GB in a billing period. Once you've reached that limit, you won't be able to use additional data for the rest of the billing period. You may be charged for any additional data used ($0.01 per MB block) for a limited time before we discontinue your data access. If you'd like to continue using additional data ($0.01 per MB block), call 1300 361 676.

Data allowance: cost to use 1MB of data allowance in Australia when you don't also have AGL Energy (1MB=1,042KB); Small plan ($0.00391/MB), Medium plan ($0.00171MB/MB); Large plan ($0.00088/MB).

Calls to standard international numbers: Medium and Large plans include an allowance that can be used for standard landline and mobile numbers in overseas destinations. Once you've used all your allowance, pay as you go rates apply. For pay as you go rates, view our International Call Rates.
