Piber Plastics partners with AGL on commercial solar system

We supported Piber Plastics to improve their energy efficiency and reduce reliance on the grid by integrating a new commercial solar system with their existing solar panels.

To help meet their sustainability goals, Piber Plastics, a plastics manufacturer in the western suburbs of Melbourne, teamed up with AGL to install a solar system that would help reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

We wanted to maximise all the roof space that we’ve got and as our energy usage has increased, we’re looking to maximise our solar returns.

No upfront capital costs for installation

By working with us, Piber Plastics took advantage of a Power Purchase Agreement - this allows a business to install a solar system and benefit from solar with no upfront capital costs. AGL maintains and services the solar system on an ongoing basis, and Piber Plastics just pay a simple, fixed rate per kilowatt-hour of electricity produced from the solar system.

The biggest advantage is the no upfront cost… instead of allocating funds towards solar, we can then invest in more efficient machinery, increase our production capacity and reduce our overall energy consumption. We’re now looking at a rebate on energy that’s produced through the system.

Generating and using solar power

As a manufacturer, Piber Plastics needs a lot of energy for their operations. We installed a 351 kW solar system, integrating the new system with their existing 100 kW solar system. Made up of approximately 800 solar panels, the solar system allows them to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on the electricity grid.

Increasing sustainable practices

This solar system installation reflects Piber Plastic’s increasing focus on environmental considerations in their procurement decisions. They believe it will also strengthen their market position by appealing to customers who value sustainable practices and those wanting to partner with sustainable suppliers.

A strong partnership

We’re excited to see our collaborative relationship with Piber Plastics evolve and help them on their path to decarbonisation. By understanding their energy needs, we were able to help deliver both environmental and financial advantages for them, strengthening their sustainability strategy and operational efficiency.
