Guiding the next generation at Wattle Point Wind Farm

I’ve lived in Point Turton, a small coastal town on the southern Yorke Peninsula, all my life. Just 40 minutes from Wattle Point Wind Farm, it’s where I’ve raised my family and built my career. Since starting at the site in 2018 – first as a contractor, then a service technician – I’ve grown into my current role as Lead Wind Technician, where I guide our team and help drive the energy transition.

Every day is different. Whether I’m coordinating tasks in the office or working 70 metres up inside a turbine, the job demands technical skills, quick thinking and teamwork. I thrive on the variety and the challenge – and I’m proud to be contributing to a renewable energy future in a region I care deeply about. It’s a role that keeps me learning, adapting and constantly problem-solving, which is exactly what I love about it.

“I thrive on the dynamic nature of the job – every day brings new challenges, and every solution helps power our renewable energy future.”

Supporting growth, sharing knowledge

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is mentoring new team members. Sharing knowledge and supporting their growth not only strengthens our team but also ensures we’re building a skilled workforce for the future. I take pride in helping others develop their confidence and capabilities, knowing that the work we do today lays the foundation for tomorrow’s energy-sector leaders.

Local pride, coastal life

Outside of work, I’m active in the community and love the outdoors. With stunning beaches all around, it’s a great place to live and enjoy nature – even when the weather’s wild. I’ve always been involved in local sporting clubs, whether it’s coaching or lending a hand. When I’m not at work or on the court, you’ll probably find me under the bonnet or cruising around in one of my classic Aussie cars. It’s a lifestyle that keeps me grounded and connected to the people and places I care about.

I’m Darren. And this is My Energy Story.
