Supporting reliable electricity through change

Living in the Port Adelaide area means I get to enjoy the best of both worlds – a job that I love and a lifestyle by the water. It’s a privilege to live and work in the same community, especially in a role that’s helping shape the future of energy.

I’ve been at AGL for more than 15 years and in that time I’ve seen significant changes in the industry. We’re moving away from thermal generation towards a future powered by renewables and backed up by storage such as batteries.

I work in the Asset Services team and in my role I support the flexible operations of our power stations. This means helping stations to adjust their generation in response to changes in electricity demand or supply when renewables are powering the grid. This work is critical to maintaining a stable electricity supply as we transition our energy portfolio.

“I live and work by the water and I’m proud to be part of the team powering South Australia’s energy future.”

Reimagining our sites for the future

One of the most exciting changes I’ve seen during my time at AGL is the arrival of the 250 MW Torrens Island Battery. At the time of commissioning in 2023, it was the biggest battery in South Australia, and the second-largest in the country.

What makes it even more special is where it stands. The battery was built on land that once housed massive oil tanks, and it connects to the grid through a repurposed connection point from the old Torrens A Station – turning a legacy of the past into a foundation for the future.

Reliable today, ready for tomorrow

The Torrens Island Battery is just one example of the broader transformation happening at AGL, but this journey goes beyond just building out our development pipeline. It’s also about ensuring our generation assets are reliable, flexible and ready for the future.

I’m Bryce. And this is My Energy Story.
