Yes, you can bring your own modem (BYO) if you’re not connecting a home phone with us and your modem is:
compatible with the nbn network and your nbn connection type
not locked to another internet provider
can support the connection speeds on your plan (otherwise you may experience slower speeds).

Things to know when you BYO
Because we can’t remotely connect to a BYO modem:
we won’t be able to do our regular tests and checks
we can only provide general troubleshooting advice
you need to let us know if your nbn service is experiencing issues, so we can look into it.
The type of equipment you need depends on your plan and nbn connection type.
Properties with FTTN (Fibre to the Node) and FTTB (Fibre to the Building)
These connections need a modem-router, like the TP-Link VX230v modem.
Properties with FTTC (Fibre to the Curb), FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) and Fixed Wireless
We recommend using a Wi-Fi router, like an eero device. These properties have an nbn connection box that handles the modem function.
Whether you’re buying a router or using one you already have, make sure it can handle the speed of your plan.
Properties with a home phone service
If you add a home phone service to your plan you'll need the TP-Link VX230v modem.
No, AGL supplied modems are only available for purchase when you sign up to an AGL nbn plan. They can't be purchased separately.

a mobile device with a data connection, iOS version 15.0 (or later) or Android OS version 9.0 (or later)

nbn®, nbn co and other nbn logos and brands are trade marks of nbn co limited and used under licence.
¹AGL modem offer: For new nbn connections (including movers) on eligible plans only. Available for eero 7 and TP Link modems on a 12-month device payment plan. If you cancel your nbn plan or your device payment plan within 12 months, you will need to pay your remaining device charges ($10 a month for 1 device or $20 a month for 2 devices for the remaining months, prorated to the day of cancellation) as a lump sum on your next bill.
