Learn about feed-tariffs, solar credits and billing information for your solar system.

Feed-in Tariffs (FiT)

A feed-in tariff (FiT) is a payment for any excess solar electricity your solar energy system generates that is fed back to the grid. You could get paid for it in cents per kWh that will appear as a credit on your bill.

You’ll be able to see your tariff by viewing your contract in My Account.

Feed-in tariff rate

The feed-in tariff rate you’ll be getting will differ from state to state and depend on which plan you’re on.

Feed-in tariffs are not subject to GST for residential customers.

A feed-in tariff is the rate paid for any electricity your solar PV system feeds into the grid. The rate you receive may differ if you are eligible for a government scheme feed-in tariff. These rates can change from time to time. If they do, we will notify you no later than your next bill after the change.

Solar services are not currently available in Western Australia.

Solar credits

You’ll receive credits for the power you supply to the grid only after your meter has been installed and we’ve received relevant documentation from your installation company.

If you've got solar, you can arrange your credits to be sent automatically every quarter. To set up, contact us.

You can transfer excess solar credits to be used toward the payment of other energy bills. Each time you want to make a credit transfer from one account to the other you'll need to contact us.

Solar bill management

You can track your usage and manage your solar billing in My Account and the AGL app.

Changing the name of the primary account holder on your bill may affect your feed-in tariff.

For NSW, SA and VIC:

  • a change in the account name should not have any impact on the feed-in tariff at the property.

For QLD:

  • a change in the account name will change your feed-in-tariff to the default RFiT (Retail Feed In tariff: 8.0c per kWh).

These details don't apply to spouses of existing account holders.

If your solar panels have recently been installed but you’re not receiving credits, and assuming you are not using all the power you generate from your panels, we may still be waiting for documentation from your installation company. Typically there’s a two to four week delay between solar system installation and usage visibility on your bill.

If it's been longer than a month since installation or your system isn't newly installed, contact us.

If you've received a high bill showing 0kWh feed in, either you’ve consumed 100% of the solar you’ve produced, or your solar system isn’t working. You can view how much solar you've consumed on page 2 of your bill under 'New charges and credits'.
