Activate an eSIM

Set up your mobile service by activating your eSIM card.

What's an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is like a virtual SIM card that’s built into capable devices including mobile phones. It means you don’t need a physical SIM card to use a mobile service.

Before you start

You will need:

  • an email from AGL containing a QR code for your new eSIM
  • your phone, connected to Wi-Fi
  • a second device (like a laptop or another phone), also connected to Wi-Fi.

If you’re getting a new number

If you're getting a new mobile number, all you need to do is add your eSIM to your device.

Add your eSIM

  1. Make sure both of your devices are connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. On your second device, open the eSIM email you’ve been sent and find the QR code.
  3. Open the camera app on your phone and aim the camera at the QR code. Your camera will recognise the code.
  4. Tap the link that appears on your phone screen and follow the instructions.
  5. When you’re done, turn flight mode on and back off again on your phone to find the new network.

Your eSIM should be ready straight away, and you’ll receive a confirmation SMS or email once it is.

If you’re transferring a number

If you're transferring your number from another provider, or from a physical SIM card, you'll need to add your eSIM and then activate it.

Add your eSIM

  1. Make sure both of your devices are connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. On your second device, open the eSIM email you’ve been sent and find the QR code.
  3. Open the camera app on your phone and aim the camera at the QR code. Your camera will recognise the code.
  4. Tap the link that appears on your phone screen and follow the instructions.

Activate your eSIM

  1. Go to AGL My Account and sign in.
    If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one.
  2. Scroll down to the Mobile section.
  3. Select Activate your SIM and follow the steps. When you’re done, turn flight mode on and back off again on your phone to find the new network.
  4. Keep your old SIM card in your phone until you receive an email from us that says your eSIM has been successfully activated.

How to order an AGL eSIM

  1. Choose one of our SIM-only phone plans.
  2. Select existing customer or new customer.
  3. Choose eSIM, and go through the checkout.

Once you’ve placed your order, you'll receive a welcome email with details of how to set up your eSIM.

How to check if your phone is compatible with an eSIM

To check if your phone is compatible with an eSIM dial *#06#  

Once you’ve dialed, you’ll see a set of different numbers on your screen.

  • If your phone supports eSIMs, a 32-digit EID number will appear on your screen. You don’t need to do anything with this number.
  • If your phone doesn’t support eSIMs, you’ll see a set of numbers but no EID number.
