With faster internet speeds, your Wi-Fi setup will play a big role in how much of that speed you actually experience.
To get the new higher speeds in September, you’ll need to have an HFC or an FTTP nbn connection at your home.
If you don’t already have one of these connection types, you might be eligible for a $0 fibre upgrade – this means NBN Co would send a technician to your home to upgrade your connection to FTTP.
To see what type of connection you have, and to find out if you’re eligible for a fibre upgrade, enter your address on our internet plans page.
NBN Co is upgrading speeds for selected plans starting in September 2025. If you're on a qualifying plan and you have an FTTP or HFC connection, your internet speeds will automatically increase. See the table above for details.
The upgrade is part of NBN Co’s national rollout to improve internet performance and meet growing demand for faster, more reliable connections.
No, this speed increase is a free upgrade. If you're on a qualifying plan and have a compatible connection type, the speed upgrade will happen automatically in September at no extra cost.
Speed upgrades begin on 15 September 2025. If you're eligible, your plan will be updated automatically from that date.
