Kwinana Gas Power Generation 2 Project (K2)
In March 2026, AGL reached Final Investment Design and is advancing the delivery of the Kwinana Gas Power Generation 2 (K2) Project.
The project is a strategic initiative to enhance energy security and system reliability in the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS), supporting the State’s energy transition strategy.
The K2 Project involves the installation of four new open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs), delivering an additional 220 MW of fast-start, dual-fuel capacity. Combined with the existing 120 MW from K1, the total site capacity will increase to approximately 340 MW. The new units will be capable of operating on natural gas, diesel and alternative fuels, providing a high level of operational flexibility and resilience.
K2 will be located adjacent to Kwinana Swift Power Station at 1 Burton Place, Kwinana Beach, WA.
This project is targeting commissioning and commencement of operations in Q4 2027, aligning with the next phase of coal generation retirements in the SWIS, and is likely to support up to 200 jobs at the peak of construction.
