AGL is proposing to develop, build, and operate an up to 106 turbine wind farm with a capacity of 600 megawatts (MW) located between the townships of Hexham, Caramut, and Ellerslie in the Moyne Shire in south-western Victoria.

About the project

AGL is working with Wind Prospect to develop the Hexham wind farm.

AGL is the potential long-term owner and operator have been working with Wind Prospect, as the developer of the Hexham wind farm.  If acquired by AGL, we would progress the Project through final investment decision, construction and operation.

AGL has been awarded a Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), the Project aims to contribute to Australia’s target to reach 82% renewable electricity by 2030 and deliver an extra 40 GW of capacity to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

 The project includes:

  • Up to 106 turbines (with 600 MW of renewable energy capacity)
  • A new on-site terminal station
  • Underground cabling and overhead transmission lines within the project boundary
  • Access tracks and temporary construction infrastructure such as batching plants and laydown areas
  • Provision for a battery energy storage facility

Development status

The Hexham wind farm is being developed by Wind Prospect, an experienced wind farm developer in the Australian market, in partnership with AGL.

In April 2022, the Victorian Planning Minister decided that an Environmental Effects Statement (EES) was required for the Project as it was determined the Project has the potential for a range of significant and complex effects that require rigorous assessment. The EES Exhibition period commenced on January 27, 2026 and ended on March 11, 2026.

Wind Prospect will continue to lead the EES process and remain the primary point of contact, providing updates as the Project progresses.

Community and stakeholder feedback

AGL will begin to actively engage with the local community, State and Federal government, Moyne Shire Council and Traditional Custodians in the region about the proposed project early in 2026.

AGL will work closely with the community and key stakeholders throughout the project to collect feedback and address any questions.

If you would like further information about the Hexham Wind Farm EES, please send Wind Prospect a message.
