AGL in the Hunter Region

Community

We’re proud to be a major economic contributor in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales and an active partner in the growth and diversity of the community.

A diversifying economy in the Hunter Region

The Newcastle and Lower Hunter region is reinventing itself as a modern, diverse city, distinct from its industrial, coal and steel heritage. The Upper Hunter has been a proud mining and electricity generation powerhouse for many years, driving prosperity in the area.

The region as a whole is in transition, with the economy diversifying towards emerging technologies, alternative energy resources, high-tech primary industry and rural tourism.

Partnerships and Community Fund

We proudly support organisations that make valuable contributions to the Hunter Region. We focus our support on resilient communities, climate action, cost-of-living and First Nations empowerment. Our partnerships include supporting the Aussie Ark animal sanctuary and Singleton Neighbourhood Centre.

Our Community Fund also provides additional support for local events and organisations which contribute to our communities. Applications are open three times a year and run through the months of March, July and October.

Once filled in, please send your AGL Community Grants application form to: AGLCommunity@agl.com.au.

Community consultation

We host a quarterly Community Dialogue Group of representatives from local First Nations organisations, councils, business and our neighbours to discuss AGL operations and plans in the Upper Hunter.

We're committed to providing ongoing communication to our community. If you’d like to receive regular updates about AGL in the Hunter Region, email us at aglhunter@agl.com.au.

AGL Hunter Community Consultative Committee

The AGL Hunter Community Consultative Committee (CCC) was formed in 2025 following updated requirements of the NSW Department of Planning and Environment and continues the work of the former Community Dialogue Group as a forum for engagement with our local community.

The CCC meets quarterly at Bayswater Power Station to provide updates, seek feedback and answer questions relating to issues of interest to the broader community including ongoing operations of Bayswater Power Station, Liddell Power Station transition, Hunter Energy Hub, new energy projects and community initiatives in the Upper Hunter.
