About the project

The Tomago Battery is a 500 Megawatts (MW), 4 hour duration (2,000 megawatt-hour (MWh)) capacity grid scale battery being constructed at Tomago in NSW.

The location for the battery is between the Pacific Hwy and Old Punt Rd in Tomago Industrial Estate.

The battery has the potential to improve the reliability of the grid by storing power for use when energy demand exceeds generation.

Construction work is targeted to start in October 2025, with the commencement of operations targeted for September 2027. The project will provide up to 200 jobs during the construction phase and up to 6 full time jobs during operation.

The total construction cost is estimated to be approximately $815 million. Fluence has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
