Our Origination team builds connections to create, negotiate and manage our trading and origination contracts. These agreements focus on managing electricity and gas supply to meet current and future demand.
As energy demand fluctuates, we make sure AGL contracts enough energy to meet our customers energy needs.
Looking to the future, we’re transitioning our energy portfolio through our planned phase-out of coal-fired generation and our ambition to add 12 GW of renewable and firming capacity by 2035.
Our Energy Trading team trades one of the largest portfolios of electricity assets in Australia. We trade in financial markets both domestically and globally.
The team is responsible for enhancing our forward trading strategy and price risk management. Some roles include Power Traders, Environmental and Carbon Credit Traders and Oil and Gas Traders.
Traded assets include electricity, renewable energy certificates, gas, coal, weather, environmental/biodiversity offsets, carbon credits, oil, gas, metals and foreign exchange.
Our Physical Markets Trading team monitors and dispatches some of AGL’s assets. This includes renewables, battery storage assets and Somerton (gas-fired) Power Station.
This team tracks our hydro, wind and battery storage assets, and monitors close to 2,000 Megawatts (MW) of energy generation. We also attend to any alarms or emergencies and play an active role in operating our fleet of hydro assets.
The Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Operations team builds and operates our virtual power plant, contributing to our target to grow our Decentralised Assets Under Orchestration to 1.6 Gigawatts (GW) by 2027.
Managing our virtual power plant involves engineering, data science, operations and the management of technology platforms.
Our multi-asset VPP incorporates technologies such as:
residential batteries
electric hot water
residential and business customer demand response
distribution-scale batteries.
The VPP Operations team collaborates with our other Trading teams to enhance the value we share with our customers.
