Understanding your customer type helps you access the right energy plans and pricing. Your customer type can depend on your:
annual spend and consumption
meter type, and
number of business sites you operate.
Here’s how you’ll know if you’re a business, enterprise or residential customer.
Your business is considered small if you have a business meter, fewer than 10 sites, and spend less than:
$30,000 per year (GST inclusive) on electricity (100MWh usage), or
$25,000 per year (GST inclusive) on gas (1TJ usage).
If that sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place. Browse the site for business solutions and offers, or find a business energy plan.
You’re a residential customer when you use electricity or gas via a residential meter. This is usually in your home or apartment, although can sometimes be a business that has this type of meter.
The best way to check your meter type is to check your address. We can confirm your meter type and show you the plans and offers that you’re eligible for.

Your business is classified as large if it has more than 10 sites or uses more than the minimum usage threshold in each state.
Your business is considered Multisite if you have 10 or more small to medium business sites.
Your business is a Large Market business if it uses more than the minimum usage threshold of electricity or gas per year.
Minimum usage by state:
NSW - 100 MWh electricity or 1TJ gas per year
QLD - 100 MWh electricity or 1TJ gas per year
SA - 160 MWh electricity or 1TJ gas per year
VIC - 100 MWh electricity or 5TJ gas per year

Australian businesses that reduce electricity consumption gain benefits from lower operating costs, as well as contributing towards national environmental goals.
You could help save your business money immediately with no-cost changes like adjusting thermostats and switching off equipment. Other changes like upgrading lighting to LED and optimising heating and cooling helps cut costs with minimal investment. Another quick pay-off could be off-peak scheduling of electricity use, if it’s right for your business.
Every kilowatt-hour saved by your business directly reduces carbon emissions. Simple upgrades like upgrading to LED lighting and ensuring your equipment is well maintained could help reduce your business’s carbon footprint without major investment.

The best energy plan is the one that’s right for your business.
Flat rate plans charge the same all day, while time-of-use plans have different rates for peak, shoulder and off-peak periods. If your business operates during daytime hours only, choosing a time-of-use tariff and shifting your load to an off-peak period during the day may save you money.
Your bill includes a daily supply charge plus usage charges based on consumption. Compare the total estimated cost, not just the usage rate.
Look for plans with no lock-in and no exit fees for flexibility.
Good service matters. Look for flexible payment options, simple account management and responsive support.
