If you’re bringing your own modem, you need to ensure it’s compatible with the nbn network and follow any requirements or directions provided by us or nbn co. Check with your modem manufacturer if you’re unsure about compatibility.

With Standard, Fast or Superfast plans, you can buy a TP-Link VX230v modem or eero mesh wi-fi device outright from us for $149. The type of device you receive may depend on availability, plan type and your nbn connection type. Home Ultrafast customers who take up our Home Phone plan can also buy the TP-Link VX230v modem. This charge will appear on your first bill. You can also choose to pay monthly with a device payment plan over 12 months ($12.41 per month, total cost $148.92) or 24 months ($6.20 per month, total cost $148.80).

Home Ultrafast customers (without the Home Phone plan) can buy the eero 6+ device outright for $210. This charge will appear on your first bill. You can also choose to pay monthly with a device payment plan over 12 months ($17.50 per month, total cost $210) or 24 months ($8.75 per month, total cost $210).

If you cancel your nbn plan within the device payment plan period, you’ll need to pay out the remaining modem fee (the monthly modem fee for each remaining month) as a lump sum on your next bill. Read the Device Payment Plan terms for more details.

The speed of your internet connection depends on a number of factors including:

  • your type of connection, (FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB, FW or HFC)
  • modem quality
  • in-home cabling
  • distance between your modem and Wi-Fi devices
  • electrical and Wi-Fi channel interference
  • number of devices connected.

Your Fixed Wireless nbn plan speeds are variable in nature and are not guaranteed. Actual speeds depend on various factors, such as how far the transmission tower is located from your premises, the antenna’s line of sight to the tower, weather conditions, network congestion (particularly during the busy hours), and your in-premises setup. If you aren’t fully satisfied with your actual speeds and we can’t fix the issue, we can move you over to a lower speed (where available) so you only pay for the speeds your connection can deliver.

Actual speeds for FTTC, FTTB and FTTN services to be confirmed with you.

Our plans use VoIP technology, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically, it allows you to make phone calls using your internet connection (just like when you use programs like Skype).

When you make calls with a traditional landline, you’re using a wired connection. With a home phone plan using VoIP, your conversation is transmitted digitally.

The nbn Fibre Connect program is currently rolling out in selected areas. It gives eligible households a faster, more reliable nbn connection by upgrading their connection type to Fibre.

If you’re connected to the nbn network via Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), you may be eligible to upgrade your connection to Fibre to the Premise (FTTP).

Upgrading to FTTP will give you access to a more reliable network and higher speed plans, which means you can do more online with less interruptions including:

  • Have multiple people online at the same time
  • Work from home and video calls
  • Stream high-definition video (4K)
  • Play online games

Are you eligible for a fibre upgrade?

To check your eligibility simply enter your address at the top of the page.

If you’re eligible, we’ll automatically let you know and show you the available fibre upgrade plans.

Upgrading from FTTN to FTTP

If your address is eligible for an upgrade, you’ll need to order a Home Fast plan or higher and remain on this plan for a minimum of 12 months. If your nbn is cancelled or you switch to a plan below Home Fast within 12 months, you’ll be charged $220 (incl. GST) cancellation/downgrade fee. Read full terms

Upgrading from FTTC to FTTP

If your address is eligible for an upgrade, you’ll need to order a Superfast plan or higher and remain on this plan for a minimum of 12 months. If your nbn is cancelled or you switch to a plan below Superfast within 12 months, you’ll be charged $220 (incl. GST) cancellation/downgrade fee. Read full terms

If you’ve ordered a fibre upgrade, an nbn technician will need to attend your property. Someone over the age of 18 will need to be home at the time. We’ll send you an SMS with details of your appointment and how you can reschedule. If you miss an appointment, you may incur a fee.

Learn more about the installation process.

The fibre upgrade is free as long as you stay above a certain plan speed and don’t cancel your nbn connection within 12 months.

A $220 cancellation/downgrade fee applies when:

  • you’re upgrading from Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and switch to a plan with speeds below Home Fast within 12 months.
  • you’re upgrading from Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) and switch to a plan with speeds below Home Superfast within 12 months.
  • your nbn connection is cancelled within 12 months.

For details on how to activate and order an eSIM visit eSIM at AGL.

Activate your AGL physical SIM card

Your AGL SIM card will be sent within 2 business days in standard mail. It can take 5-10 business days for it to arrive depending on your location. If it doesn’t arrive after 2 weeks, please get in touch.

If you’ve ordered a new mobile number with your AGL service, you don’t need to activate your SIM, we’ll activate it for you. All you need to do is insert your new AGL SIM card into your mobile device. Activation usually happens on the day it arrives, but it can take 1-2 business days after arrival. We’ll send you an SMS confirmation once it’s activated.

If you’re keeping your existing number, log into AGL MyAccount when your SIM arrives and follow the prompts to activate your service. Activation usually happens within 1 hour, but can take 1-2 business days.

IMPORTANT: Keep your old SIM card in your phone until it stops working. That's when you'll know your new SIM is ready for use.

For your phone to be compatible with an AGL mobile SIM plan make sure:

  • Your phone is unlocked
To be compatible for AGL SIM plans, you’ll need a phone that works with the Optus Network and isn’t locked to another network.

  • Your phone takes a physical SIM or eSIM

We offer the choice of either a physical SIM card or an eSIM. The only way to order an eSIM is to contact us.

Otherwise, you can order a physical SIM card online. This will be a multi-fit SIM card, which fits most standard phones.

Carefully snap out the SIM card to fit either a standard, micro or nano SIM. To find out which size SIM card your phone needs, refer to the instruction manual for your phone or contact the manufacturer.

  • For 5G plans you'll also need:
    • a 5G compatible device.
    • a 5G plan.
    • to be in a 5G coverage area (when you aren’t in a 5G coverage area, your device will access the 3G and 4G Plus networks as a backup). Check coverage.

International calls may be included in your AGL mobile SIM only plan. For details on rates and charges, view your plan's Critical Information Summary (CIS) and our International Call Rates.

eSIM is the latest in SIM technology. It’s like an electronic SIM card built directly into compatible phones.

There are many benefits to eSIM:

Fast activation

No more waiting around for a physical SIM to arrive. Scan the QR code in your welcome email and follow the prompts to activate your eSIM. It’s that easy.

Two numbers. One phone.

Depending on your phone’s capabilities, you can set up two numbers on one phone. For example, you can choose to have one number for work and one for personal use.

Kinder to the planet

eSIMs use less plastic and they don’t need to be delivered, making them a more responsible choice with less impact on the planet.
