When is the free period?

Enjoy free electricity usage¹ between 11am and 2pm in NSW and Queensland, or 12pm and 3pm in South Australia, every day. These windows are fixed year-round and don't shift with daylight saving.

Who gets the most out of it?

This plan rewards households that can move their biggest energy tasks into the middle of the day - think dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, pool pump, or charging an EV. If most of your usage happens in the evening and you can't shift it, another AGL plan may cost you less overall.

Is there a cap?

Yes,  the first 24 kWh you use during the free window each day is free. Anything above that is billed at your plan's usage rates. Supply charges and controlled load are always charged as normal, including during the free window.

Requires usage shift

The SSO is best suited to customers who can shift their usage to the free usage period. Not shifting your usage to this period could result in higher electricity costs.

Smart meter required

A smart meter is required to be eligible for this offer. If you don’t have a smart meter, we can arrange to have one installed on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, the name refers to sharing the abundance of solar energy in the grid during the middle of the day, not solar on your roof.

Any eligible household with a smart meter can join, whether you rent or own.

Note there is no solar feed-in tariff payable on the Solar Sharer Offer for those who do have solar panels.

A smart meter is required, as it's the only way we can measure exactly when you use electricity. If you're still on a basic meter upgrades are rolling out nationally and yours may be closer than you think.

Up to 24 kWh during the 3-hour window, every day. Whether you'd ever hit that cap depends on your appliances, whether you have solar or a battery, and how much usage you can shift. You can review your usage patterns in the AGL app and My Account to see whether this plan suits your household before switching.

No. The window stays fixed at local time all year — 11am–2pm in NSW and Queensland, 12pm–3pm in SA.

If your apartment has its own smart meter connected directly to the grid, yes (in NSW, QLD or SA). If your building runs on an embedded network, this offer isn't available to you.

Daily supply charges apply as normal, and controlled load usage (like off-peak hot water) is excluded from the free window and billed at your controlled load rate.
