Getting connected with AGL

This process can take up to 3 months, depending on when your final bill cycle ends with your current provider and when your next scheduled meter read is. Once you’re ready to go, we’ll confirm your transfer by email. You’ll be able to access My Account and the AGL Energy app when your account number is generated, but usage details will only be shown after the transfer to AGL has been completed.

You also have a 10 business day cooling off period during which you’re able to cancel your switch to an AGL energy plan. This cooling off period runs from the date on which you receive your welcome pack containing the Product Disclosure Statement and General Terms.

Once you sign up, we'll begin processing your connection request. Depending on your connectivity type and previous installations, an nbn technician appointment may be required. We'll let you know and provide details of the appointment if needed.

If a technician appointment isn't required, hang tight. We'll arrange to get you connected remotely and dispatch your modem, if it's been ordered. We'll keep you posted on the progress and provide a connection date as soon as possible.

Connecting to AGL mobile is easy. Our SIM cards are sent out within 2 business days in standard mail. It can take between 5-10 business days for it to arrive depending on your location.

After receiving your SIM card, activate your service using the instructions that came with it. Activation of your new service can take as little as 1 hour, but as long as 1-2 business days.

When switching your energy to AGL, you don't need to tell your provider – we'll do it for you. When signing up for internet and mobile, wait until your internet is connected with AGL, then you'll need to cancel your plan directly with your previous provider.

Things to know:

Monthly $15 nbn plan discount: discount appears on your AGL Telecommunications bill. If you leave your AGL energy plan(s), the discount will no longer apply from the end of your billing period.

Calls, SMS and MMS to standard Australian numbers: your allowance can be used for standard landline, mobile and 13/1300/1800 numbers, voicemail retrievals/deposits and voicemail diversions. Acceptable Use Policy applies.

Data: your allowance and any Data Boosts are for use in Australia only. If you use more than your allowance, we’ll automatically give you a 1GB Data Boost for $10, up to 3GB in a billing period. Once you’ve reached that limit, you won’t be able to use additional data for the rest of the billing period. If you do wish to use additional data (charged at $0.01 per MB block), give us a call. However, you may be able to use additional data without calling us first (charged at $0.01 per MB block), for a limited time before we discontinue your data access. All unused data (including Data Boosts) expire at the end of each billing period. Data is counted in kilobytes and includes uploads and downloads. Cost to use 1MB of data allowance in Australia when you don’t also have AGL Energy (1MB = 1,024KB): Small plan ($0.00391/MB), Medium plan ($0.00171/MB), Large plan ($0.00088/MB).
