About home chargers

All of our EV subscriptions come with a portable charger that you can plug into a normal wall socket, but for faster charging we recommend upgrading to a home charger.

Don’t have an AGL EV subscription? No problem – we can still supply and install a charger for you!

We can install any electric vehicle (EV) charger purchased from our home charger range.

AGL only installs chargers purchased from our home charger range.

Unfortunately, we can’t install a charger you’ve purchased somewhere else.

How to organise a home charger installation

1. Choose a charger

Pick out a charger from our home charger range.

If you’re not sure which one to choose, you can always speak to one of our experts – just send us a question or book a call.

2. Click ‘Request quote’ and fill in the form

Once you’ve chosen a charger, click Request quote to open the order form. This form will ask you for relevant information, including installation details. And don’t worry – this form doesn’t ask for payment details, and doesn’t commit you to anything.

3. Fill in the virtual site inspection form

After you’ve filled out the first form you’ll see a button that says Upload images now. Click that button to open the virtual site inspection form.

This form will ask you some questions about your property, and guide you to upload the specific photos we’ll need for a virtual site inspection.

Once you’ve uploaded the photos, our technicians will assess your property to determine what sort of installation you’ll need. This lets us calculate the installation cost to give you an accurate quote. If we spot anything complex, we’ll give you a call to arrange an in-person site inspection. Site inspection fees may apply – we’ll let you know ahead of time if this is the case.

4. Accept your quote

We’ll email you a tailored quote for installing your new charger at your home. Follow the instructions in the email to accept the quote.

5. Book your installation

Once you accept the quote, we’ll contact you to arrange an installation date that works for you.

Ask us for help if you need to arrange anything (like permission from a landlord).

How your home can affect your charger installation

If you own your house and you have power close to your parking spot (for example, if you park in a driveway next to your house), your installation is likely to be standard (which is the price you’ll see quoted on our home chargers).

Because you own the house, you won’t need permission from anyone to install your charger. If you own a unit or an apartment instead, you’ll need body corporate approval.

To have a home charger installed at your rental property you’ll need written permission from:

your landlord or property manager, and
your body corporate (if applicable).

We can install home chargers in apartment buildings and units, but it can be complex. A common issue is needing work to connect power from your meter to your parking space.

You’ll need:

written permission from your landlord or property manager (if you’re renting), and
written permission from your body corporate.

You may also need advice from an electrician based on your body corporate’s requirements – ask us if this will be necessary for your installation.

If your charger will be installed at a parking spot more than two metres from your switchboard, you’ll need to have an isolation switch installed with it. The isolation switch will be factored into your installation cost.

Isolation switches

Isolation switches are used to turn off electrical circuits during maintenance and repairs. This prevents short circuits and dangerous electric shocks.

Switchboards and fuse boxes

A switchboard is an electrical panel that holds your home’s circuit breakers. Your switchboard could be on a wall inside your home, or it could be inside a metal case called a fuse box or meter box. If you have a fuse box, it could be mounted on a wall inside your home, outside your home, or in your garage.
