What is Peak Energy Rewards?

When there's high demand on the electricity grid, we'll invite you to join a 'peak event' where we ask you to reduce your energy usage4.

If you meet the reduction target we set, you'll earn a $5 or $10 credit on your electricity bill.

You can participate in as many or as few events as you like, and it’s free to join2.

Things you should know

To be eligible to participate, you need to:

  • have an active AGL electricity plan under a market contract (which could include a solar plan4)

  • have a remotely read digital smart meter installed on your property. Not sure if you have one? Contact us

  • be a residential owner or tenant responsible for the electricity account at your address

  • be located in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia or Queensland

  • consent to receive AGL marketing by email and text message.

Find the full eligibility criteria in the Peak Energy Rewards Terms & Conditions.

Energy savings are measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is a unit of energy that measures your home’s electricity use in an hour.

You’ll be rewarded with bill credits if your electricity use is lower than your reduction target during the event4

These targets are determined before each event and are based on your existing energy usage data. The targets we set will change from event to event, based on your energy use at home.

If you have an active solar plan with AGL, you can also participate in peak events. We might ask you to export your solar panel energy instead of switching off appliances.

Peak Energy Rewards is a demand response program. This means when there’s increased demand on the electrical grid, we’ll invite you to temporarily shift or reduce home energy consumption4. Demand response helps balance energy demand and improve grid stability, and could even impact energy prices.

Peak events are unplanned and can take place anytime throughout the day, often triggered by extreme weather conditions or energy supply constraints. Shifting energy use during these periods helps us to manage peak demand and the risks it causes, such as power outages.

If you don’t want to participate in a peak event you can simply ignore the SMS – there are no penalties for skipping events.

If you’d like to stop receiving notifications about events altogether, you can opt out of Peak Energy Rewards.

You can also opt out of receiving AGL marketing at any time after you leave Peak Energy Rewards.
