Flex Together - Our Shared Energy Future

A new collaboration between AGL and Endeavour Energy.

AGL and Endeavour Energy are proud to launch Flex Together, a landmark initiative designed to help shape Australia’s energy future. This program sees an Energy Retailer and a Distributor, working in concert to unlock smarter, more efficient ways to integrate consumer energy resources (CER), like rooftop solar, batteries, electric vehicles and smart appliances, into network operation.

Flex Together will signpost a new opportunity for collaboration that demonstrates customer-centred innovation has an important role to play in our shared energy future.

Together, we’re building a model to drive toward a more efficient energy system for everyone.

What is Flex Together?

Flex Together is a multiphase initiative where AGL is partnering with Endeavour Energy, to incentivise the deployment of CER coordinated and orchestrated by a Retailer, to support the Endeavour network and avoid network augmentation costs. It aims to test, then scale, new approaches that help customers, retailers and networks get more value from consumer energy resources like solar, batteries and electric vehicles.  It focuses on two major enablers:

Better data sharing between Retailers and Distributors

Today, Distributors often have limited visibility of the capacity of consumer energy resources and Retailers have limited visibility of a network’s expected operational needs. This can lead to underutilised network capacity, inefficient network upgrades, and missed opportunities for customers to benefit from their energy assets.

Flex Together aims to change that by establishing standardised, transparent data sharing, including insights on:

  • CER adoption and hosting capacity
  • Network constraints and utilisation
  • Smart meter and low voltage network data
  • Opportunities for Flexibility Services

A new framework for Fexibility Services

Flexibility Services allow consumer energy resources like batteries or smart appliances to support the grid at times of high demand or local constraints. Flex Together will test a standardised approach for procuring and delivering these services, helping to create a competitive market driving efficiency and allowing customers to be rewarded for the use their CER.

The goal is to develop Flexibility Services as a viable alternative to traditional network augmentation, and harness CER and competitive forces to help minimise consumer energy costs.

Why Flex Together matters?

Flex Together is designed to deliver benefits across the whole energy system, starting with customers.

  • Lower energy costs for all customers
By improving network utilisation and reducing the need for costly infrastructure upgrades, Flex Together aims to help lower long-term energy costs. The program seeks to optimise network utilisation and reduce consumer expenditure through a controlled, scalable pilot.
  • More equitable access to CER
Not all customers can easily access solar or batteries. Flex Together explores ways to ensure equitable access to CER, leaving no customer behind. This could include targeted support for renters, low-income households and communities with limited CER uptake.
  • Greater value from customer energy resources
With the rapid growth in home batteries, accelerated by the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Battery policy, there is strong potential to orchestrate CER to deliver both wholesale and network benefits. Flex Together helps unlock this value by enabling smarter coordination between retailers and networks, with a greater focus on leveraging home batteries to play a more critical role in supporting local networks and rewarding customers.
  • A more stable, future-ready grid
By identifying where CER can support the network, Flex Together helps avoid constraints, improve reliability and defer augmentation. This supports a smoother transition to a high-renewables energy system

A shared commitment to Australia’s energy future

Flex Together builds on the momentum created by the Cheaper Home Battery policy and the rapid growth in CER adoption. Addressing these issues requires stronger collaboration between Energy Retailers and Distributors like never before.

AGL and Endeavour Energy are proud to lead this work and help create a more flexible, affordable, and customer centred energy system.
