It's a 5-year plan, with the option to leave at any time with no exit fees. Your allowance resets every billing period (any unused allowance does not roll over).
* This plan works out to be 92% less than comparison price set by AER of $2,302 per year. Based on a household using 3900 kWh/year on a single rate tariff (regulated) in the Ausgrid network in NSW (incl. GST).
There are 4 allowance tiers^. We’ll allocate the right tier to you based on your household’s estimated electricity usage and battery size, plus a 25% buffer on top.
To get an idea of your usage, check your electricity bill and battery app. Household usage includes electricity you take from the grid and from your solar battery.
^The allowance assumes a 30-day month (if you’re on monthly billing) or 90-day quarter (if you’re on quarterly billing). Your actual usage allocation will vary for billing periods with a different number of days. For example, if you’re on monthly billing, your usage allocation will be slightly lower for February and higher for July.

To be eligible for the Energy Allowance plan, you'll need to meet several eligibility criteria, including:
be a residential customer in QLD, SA or NSW (excluding customers on Essential Energy network)
own an eligible solar battery (Sigenergy, Sungrow or Alpha ESS) that’s an appropriate size for your household’s typical electricity usage
have a smart meter
agree to us installing a secondary meter to help monitor your allowance usage (fees may apply)+
be okay with AGL using your battery
not be on AGL’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) or another electricity offer, or be okay switching.

+A fee may be payable in certain cases, including if your address is located in a remote location or an upgrade is required to your meter enclosure or switchboard. If a fee applies, AGL will let you know and ask for your consent before proceeding.

As part of this plan, we manage how and when your battery charges and discharges, whether that's from your solar, your home, or the grid. By making decisions around what's happening in the energy market, we make sure your battery is always working at its most valuable.
Wholesale energy prices move up and down throughout the day. Managing your battery lets us store energy when supply is high and prices are cheap, and send it to the grid when it needs it most and it's worth more. That's value your battery couldn't capture sitting idle.
That's the value that makes this offer possible. Instead of a traditional electricity bill that moves around with your usage, we can share the value we get from your battery with you as a simple, predictable allowance for a low daily supply charge.
And for your peace of mind, it doesn't matter whether the electricity comes from the grid or your solar system, we'll always make sure at least 20% of your battery stays reserved for you as backup.
You’ll be allocated an electricity allowance based on your household’s estimated total electricity usage (plus 25% to give you some buffer) and the size of your battery. Total electricity usage includes what you take from the grid and get from your solar battery.
Once you’ve registered interest, we’ll contact you to ask about your usage and battery size (along with a few other eligibility questions), and if it looks like a good fit, we’ll send you an offer with an allowance allocated to match your needs.
If you exceed your electricity allowance, you’ll pay electricity usage rates for the excess. For example, if your allowance is 1000 kWh and you use 1100 kWh, you’ll only pay usage rates for the extra 100 kWh.
You’ll be able to track your usage and see any excess in MyAccount.
To be eligible for the Energy Allowance plan, you need to have a Sigenergy, Sungrow or Alpha ESS battery that’s an appropriate size for your household’s typical electricity usage.
For example, if you have a home with a maximum monthly electricity usage of 414 kWh and a battery that’s at least 14 kWh, you could be eligible for an Energy Allowance plan, because your battery will be able to store enough electricity to support your home.
If you have a home with a large typical energy usage, but a small battery, then you may not be eligible for this plan.
For example, if your home’s typical electricity usage is around 1000 kWh per month and you have a battery of only 14 kWh, then you may not be eligible. That’s because a battery of 14 kWh won’t be able to properly support a home with 1000 kWh per month usage.
You can check how much your usage typically is on your electricity bill and in your battery app. Total electricity usage includes what you take from the grid and get from your solar battery.
We’ll work through your eligibility when you register your interest.
No, you can keep using electricity as normal. As long as you stay within your allowance, your usage is covered.
After 5 years, AGL will no longer use your battery. Your Energy Allowance plan will finish and you’ll be moved to a Standard Retail Contract, unless you choose a new energy plan. We’ll let you know about it before that happens.
Yes, the price can change. Once per year in July, we may increase:
the daily supply charge
the usage rate you pay for electricity usage over your allowance
other fees that may apply from time to time.
This is in line with regulations. We’ll always let you know before any change takes effect.
