As we transition our energy portfolio, we are sourcing the required renewable and firming capacity to power our customer energy demand through a combination of self-development and external project options via partnerships, acquisitions and third-party offtakes.

We’ve already completed the 250 MW Torrens Island Battery, the 50 MW Broken Hill Battery and the 500 MW Liddell Battery. We plan to continue to build our development pipeline to enable options to be exercised.

As we transition our energy portfolio, we are committed to working constructively with our stakeholders, including our customers, our people and the communities where we operate, to deliver a responsible transition that considers and respects their needs.

While it may only be required for brief periods, flexible generation will be critical to maintain system reliability and security. As the market operator has noted, renewable energy connected with transmission and distribution, firmed with storage, and backed up by gas-fired generation, is the lowest-cost way to supply electricity to homes and businesses through Australia’s transition to a net zero economy.

We are making significant investments in flexibility, including investing in grid-scale batteries, growing distributed energy and orchestration assets, and increasing thermal unit flexibility. 
 

We recognise that the flexibility, availability and reliability of our current generation fleet will be crucial to help fund the transition of our business. Our ability to flex our thermal fleet also enables us to manage the impacts of lower customer demand, for example during periods of peak solar generation.

These energy hubs will leverage the unique infrastructure, land, transport access, and grid connectivity at our sites to integrate renewable energy, grid-scale batteries, and modern manufacturing and recycling precincts, and are planned with circular economy principles at the forefront.
