About the projects

In August 2024, AGL announced the acquisition of Firm Power and Terrain Solar. Firm Power was a battery project developer and Terrain Solar was a solar project developer. Following the acquisition, AGL has several proposed battery projects underway.

Pipeline projects

Abermain Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 125 megawatts (MW) in the City of Ipswich in Queensland.

The Abermain Battery obtained development approval in November 2023, following assessment by Ipswich City Council.

The Town Planning Report for the Abermain Battery project and supporting documents can be viewed on the Ipswich City Council development portal.

Aramara Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 200 megawatts (MW) capacity at North Aramara in Queensland.

Awaba Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 50 megawatts (MW) capacity in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW.

The Awaba Battery obtained development approval in December 2023, following assessment by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The Environmental Impact Statement for the Awaba Battery project and supporting documents can be viewed on the NSW Major Projects Planning  Portal.

Bathurst Battery

The Bathurst Battery is a grid-scale battery proposed to be developed in Eglinton, NSW.

The battery would be designed to provide up to 500 MW of electricity to the grid for approximately eight hours (4,000 MWh). While the battery equipment would have a higher installed storage capacity of 5,400 MWh, not all of this capacity is intended for routine operation. The additional capacity would maintain performance as the battery ages and supports efficient system operation throughout the life of the project.

What is being proposed

AGL is proposing to build, operate and maintain a grid-scale battery of approximately 500 megawatts (MW).

The construction period for the battery is expected to be around 24 months, with works anticipated to commence in late 2028.

Batteries are a key part of our strategy to support flexibility in the energy system.

The project is expected to deliver local economic benefits, including up to 200 jobs during construction and a small number of ongoing roles in operations, maintenance and vegetation management.

Beermullah Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 300 megawatts (MW) along Brand Highway at Beermullah in WA.

Kondinin Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 50 megawatts (MW) at Kondinin in WA.

Monash Energy Park Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 200 megawatts (MW) at Monash in South Australia. The proposed battery is located near Renmark, close to the South Australian and Victorian border.

Mount Britton Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 500 megawatts (MW) at Nebo in Queensland. The location for the proposed battery is along Suttor Developmental Road.

Murrumburrah Battery

A proposed battery of approximately 100 megawatts (MW) in the South East and Tablelands region of NSW.

AGL is engaging with the community and relevant stakeholders in the various regions about these proposed projects.
