Oaklands Hill Wind Farm

Community

We’re proud to be a major economic contributor in the Southern Grampians shire of Victoria.

Community engagement

During development and construction of the wind farm, AGL engaged in rigorous stakeholder consultation; and we continue to work closely with landowners, the community, and local and state authorities.

Here are some of the things we have done and are doing:

  • an AGL Community Fund supports local projects, with funding allocated through consultation, ranking and agreement with local community associations
  • AGL is committed to ongoing monitoring, offsets and local community investment for the life of the project, to conform to planning permits
  • AGL will continue with its strategy of building long term local partnerships by investing in the local community.

Key partnership highlights

  • Walker Swamp Restoration: AGL provided critical investment for the 2016 purchase of Walker Swamp, a 400-hectare site near the Grampians National Park. In partnership with Glenelg Hopkins and others, this project involved reversing decades of artificial drainage to restore natural water levels, supporting species like brolgas and magpie geese.
  • Glenthompson Cooking Club: AGL is proud to support the Glenthompson Cooking Club, a powerful initiative that brings people together through food. The club creates a welcoming space where community members come together to learn how to cook a new recipe, build confidence in the kitchen and enjoy the shared experience of preparing a meal. What makes the club special is what happens next – sitting down together to share the food they’ve made, strengthen local connections and enjoy good conversation. By supporting the Glenthompson Cooking Club, AGL is helping foster wellbeing and a strong sense of community in the places where we operate.
