AGL is proposing to build, operate and maintain a battery of approximately 170 megawatts (MW) and up to 340 megawatt-hour (MWh) capacity at Beresfield in NSW.

About the project

AGL is proposing to build, operate and maintain a battery of approximately 170 megawatts (MW) and up to 340 megawatt-hour (MWh) capacity at Beresfield in NSW.

The location for the proposed battery is adjacent to the Ausgrid 132kV substation located at 53 Weakleys Drive, Beresfield NSW.

The battery has the potential to improve the reliability and stability of the grid.

AGL expects the project to provide socioeconomic outcomes including the potential benefits relating to increased employment opportunities. The project is expected to provide up to 75 jobs during the construction phase and up to 2 full time jobs during operation.

Development status

Community and stakeholder feedback

AGL will engage with the local community, State and Federal government, City of Newcastle Council, Awabakal and Worimi Traditional Custodians, residents and businesses in the region about the proposed project.
