I manage the processes that keep energy contained safely
Process safety is about ensuring energy and process materials remain safely contained within the switchboards, pipework and major equipment of the power plants and processing facilities AGL operates.
As a Process Safety Engineer across AGL’s asset fleet, I help drive our Process Safety program, making sure we have the right frameworks, processes, equipment, risk management and education material in place to prevent major incidents such as fires, explosions, or chemical loss of containment.
It’s an important job, and I take pride in protecting our people and operations every day.
Energy generation sites are like a playground for engineers
It’s mind blowing how complex our energy generating sites are – and it’s exciting to learn something new every time I visit a power station or gas storage facility. There's plenty of variety in the work I do, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing something I’ve worked on in a corporate office come to life at an energy generating site.
I started my journey in AGL’s Graduate Engineering Program
After graduating with a chemical engineering degree from RMIT University, I joined the three-year Graduate Engineering Program at AGL.
Across four rotations at Bayswater Power Station, Torrens Island Power Station and Melbourne’s corporate office, I gained valuable insights into process safety, power station chemistry, performance engineering and energy analytics.
It provided a safe space to learn. It became clear that Process Safety was my calling, and halfway through my third rotation, I successfully applied for a permanent position as Process Safety Engineer.
Variety and flexibility are my favourite parts of working at AGL
Because of our diverse asset fleet, I get to work with a variety of different technologies and people every day. I enjoy travelling to our sites and working closely with our assets – it helps me feel connected to my work and invested in the bigger picture of the energy transition. I also enjoy a great work/life balance.
