AGL Submission to Consultation Strengthening the Modern Slavery Act (Cth)

AGL has made a submission to the Australian Government's consultation on Strengthening the Modern Slavery Act, where we support strengthening the Modern Slavery Act while emphasising the importance of a flexible, risk based due diligence approach that builds on systems many reporting entities, including AGL, have already established.

AGL recommends that any new obligations be principles based and scalable rather than prescriptive, to avoid diverting resources from effective existing processes. We also support the introduction of government issued high risk declarations, provided they are accompanied by clear rationale and used on a voluntary basis, to help entities prioritise risks without imposing unnecessary duplication.

Overall, AGL advocates for balanced reforms that enhance clarity, encourage continuous improvement, and align with the diverse operating contexts of reporting entities.
