AEMC - 2026 Reliability Standard And Settings Review

AGL supports retaining current reliability settings, including the market price floor and administered price limits, but does not consider there is sufficient evidence to justify changing the reliability standard, noting that the estimated benefits are small and highly sensitive to modelling assumptions. The submission emphasises the importance of regulatory stability to support investment and argues that existing market-based settings remain fit for purpose, while cautioning against reliance on interim measures and interventionist mechanisms that weaken long-term price signals. AGL also highlights the need for nationally consistent reliability settings, warns against jurisdiction-specific approaches such as separate strategic reserves, and stresses that any reforms should preserve market signals, minimise distortion, and support efficient, coordinated investment across the NEM.
