AGL’s submission to the Productivity Commission’s five pillars of productivity inquiry

AGL Energy (AGL) welcomes the opportunity to comment on to the Productivity Commission’s five pillars of productivity inquiry.

In our submission, AGL’s supports Australia's net zero goals and outlines key productivity principles for the energy sector, focusing on:

  • Energy Transition: Advocates for a modern, low-emissions energy system through electrification, energy efficiency, and consumer energy resources (CER).
  • Regulatory Reform: Calls for simplified regulations and expedited approvals for renewable projects, while maintaining environmental and social standards.
  • Investment & Market Design: Opposes the proposed Net Cashflow Tax (NCT), citing risks to capital deployment. Supports long-term market settings post-2030 to drive renewable investment.
  • Transport Decarbonisation: Endorses incentives for heavy vehicles and a fair road user charging system, with safeguards to support electric vehicle (EV) uptake.
  • Climate Adaptation: Recommends a national climate risk database, housing resilience rating system, and stronger adaptation governance via the Climate Change Authority.
