AGL’s submission to NSW EPA’s proposed climate change licensee requirements

AGL welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the NSW EPA’s Proposed Climate Change Licensee Requirements.

The proposed changes will introduce requirements for ~10% of environmental protection licensees that emit 25,000t or more of CO2-e of scope 1 and scope 2 emissions per year. The EPA’s aim is to drive emissions reductions and improve transparency of greenhouse gas data, as part of NSW EPA’s commitments in the Climate Change Action Plan 2023–26.

Five types of climate change requirements will be phased in over time:

1.  Annual climate change emissions reporting

2.  Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plans

3.  Specific mitigation actions

4.  Emissions measurement

5.  Greenhouse gas emission limits on licences
