I work in AGL’s Virtual Power Plant team
My role intersects renewable energy, smart meter infrastructure and software development. I analyse and optimise the performance of hot water systems, particularly in residential settings, to improve efficiency, reduce energy costs and align usage with market signals and supply availability.
The job involves applying advanced analytics to assess heating patterns, customer needs and system performance. This includes designing and creating optimisation models to develop cost-effective heating schedules that adapt to dynamic electricity pricing.
My energy journey has been anything but linear
I grew up on a dairy farm where I developed a strong connection to nature. I care deeply about protecting what we have and investing in a sustainable future, and that value has guided my career pivot into energy.
My career started off in banking, while playing professional AFL Women’s. After retiring from footy, I was ready for a new challenge.
I wanted to work on solutions through data that had real-world impact, so I taught myself how to code and transitioned into data. That path eventually led me to the energy industry, where I now get to combine my technical skills with my environment values.
Every day brings a new challenge or breakthrough
It’s incredibly exciting to work in a space where new technologies, ideas and approaches are constantly emerging.
We’re at a pivotal moment in the global shift toward cleaner, smarter and more sustainable energy systems. It’s inspiring to know the work we’re doing contributes to shaping the future of how energy is generated, managed and consumed.
My energy career advice for women and girls
