AGL Energy welcomes the opportunity to make a submission to the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) consultation paper on the ring-fencing waiver application for an electric vehicle charging infrastructure trial from CitiPower, Powercor, and United Energy (CPU). Choice and availability of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is critical to help drive EV uptake. The EV market is in its early stages in Australia, and the rollout of public charging and other supporting infrastructure is even more nascent. At present we lack strong indicators of what consumer preferences will be when it comes to publicly available infrastructure. It is critical that consumer choices are not unfairly limited early by locking in uniform electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) solutions at the expense of others.
