AGL simplifies energy with low and fixed rate digital-only energy plan

AGL today launched a low and fixed rate energy plan for Victorian residential customers.

Chief Customer Officer Melissa Reynolds said AGL Essentials was a simple energy plan that guaranteed customers no rate rises for 12 months and would be available through digital channels.

The key elements are:

  • simple and easy online sign-up in under five minutes
  • low rates that are fixed for 12 months
  • available only with e-billing and direct debit (and monthly billing for electricity customers)
  • 24 x 7 online account management
  • monitoring and tracking via the AGL App

Customers tell us discounts are confusing. We have responded with a fixed low rate, presented as a dollar amount per day, which is easy to understand,” Ms Reynolds said.

AGL Essentials gives customers peace of mind, knowing that their rates are fixed for 12 months.

We are continually exploring ways to improve the customer experience, and recognise that customers want to be able to do more in channels that suit them.

Managing their energy at any time via an iPhone or Android app is just one of the ways that we are meeting this need.

Being able to monitor energy costs via an app means that customers can better understand their energy usage – and relate it to what was happening in their home without waiting weeks or months for a bill to arrive.

Depending on the response from Victorian customers to this product, it may be launched in other states.

Meanwhile, we continue to call for an industry comparator rate for customers and look forward to its speedy development.”
