AGL staff support Kangaroo Hoppet for fourth consecutive year

As sponsors of the Kangaroo Hoppet for the forth consecutive year, AGL Energy Limited (AGL) staff will this year be at the event to provide logistical and volunteering support to the organizers.

Sarah McLeod, AGL's Head of Hydro said: "This year a number of local AGL staff will be volunteering at the event, setting up signage and helping organisers direct participants. David Panozzo, a longstanding AGL employee, will once again be filming the event from the back of a skidoo.

"We are incredibly proud to be sponsoring this event again. AGL prides itself on building strong relationships with the local communities in which we work and invest.

"We employ around 70 locals in the region at our Mt Beauty depot to operate and maintain AGL's Hydro assets including Bogong Power Station, which was opened in November 2009," she said.

The course of the Kangaroo Hoppet passes around the shores of AGL's Rocky Valley Dam, which is used by AGL for hydroelectric power generation. It creates renewable energy from an existing water resource and enough electricity to power approximately 120,000 Victorian homes during peak summer demand.

Over 1,200 skiers from more than 20 nations are expected to take part in the marathon. The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia's premier long distance cross country ski race, and a member of the Worldloppet series of international cross country ski events. The Hoppet is the only southern hemisphere event in the 14 race Worldloppet series of long distance cross country ski races.
