Making it easier to understand electricity pricing in your state

We're committed to making the process of buying energy easy and transparent for you. Discover more reasons why it pays to be with AGL.

Whether you’re on the DMO or a market contract plan, the price of your electricity depends on your usage, the distribution zone you live in and your tariff type.

The Default Market Offer (DMO) is a federal government initiative to make energy prices more affordable for customers.

We’re committed to making buying energy easy and transparent for you. We are standing by to help you understand the new default price and how it compares with your current plan and other AGL market rates.

We’ve got you covered

If you’re on an AGL market contract rates on a tariff covered by the DMO, you can switch to our standard retail contract on the default price cap at any time.

Or, you can choose to switch to another AGL market contract, which may give you better value for money than the default price.

Comparing your options

We’re here to help you weigh up your options, so you can choose the best value plan for your home or business.

We no longer offer conditional discounts for customers who pay by direct debit or on time. And for some time, we’ve offered deals with low rates, fixed for two years that make it easier for you to compare your options and pick the deal that suits you best.

We’ll continue to make it simple for you to pay your bills and manage your account online.

Taking control of your energy usage

AGL offers a range of services to help you manage your energy usage.

For a residential customer with a smart meter and eBilling, AGL Energy Insights is a free service that can help you see where savings can be made by breaking down your electricity bill. It uses weather information, data from your smart meter and information from your Home Profile (if you complete one) to estimate how much power your home uses for things like heating, cooling, lighting, refrigeration and laundry.

Your AGL My Account and the AGL Energy app can provide you with up-to-date information on your energy usage and charges. You can compare your usage patterns across different periods and if you have a smart meter, you can also track your electricity usage and costs within a billing period. You can use your AGL My Account or the AGL Energy app to access self-service meter reads, download and store your bills, make payments and receive alerts when your bills are due.

As an AGL customer, you can also take more control of your bills by choosing the way you pay, with options to suit everyone.

Ambrose explains that some appear to be turned off, but are only on standby, with no light to indicate it.

“People are often furious when they find this out. It will cost them around $13 per year. Now, while it may not be much in the grand scheme of things, it all adds up, and it’s $13 that should be in your pocket.”

You can buy usage monitors to identify which devices are still drawing power, or use smart powerboards to cut off standby power. But just turning off the power point at the wall ensures any appliance isn’t drawing standby power.
