What is the Battery Rewards Plan?
It’s an energy plan designed specifically for home battery customers in NSW, QLD, SA and VIC, helping you maximise the value of your battery.
When you sign up with an existing battery you earn rewards when you export to the grid during peak period. Plus, when you’re on a time-of-use (ToU) rate, you can charge your battery at night when electricity is cheaper than the rewards you receive for exporting that energy.
How the Battery Rewards Plan supports a smarter grid – and your wallet
1. Sharing is caring - and rewarding
If your home battery collects and stores more energy from the sun than you use in a day, you can sell the excess back to the grid.
AGL’s Battery Rewards Plan¹ puts you in control, so you can choose to export energy to the grid when you can spare it – and when it’s most beneficial to the grid and your pocket. This is typically in the evening, when it’s peak demand and rates are higher Plus, export at least 1kWh from your solar battery to the grid during peak times and you earn gift cards every quarter. For example, if you send 560 - 600kWh back to the grid between 5pm and 9pm every 3 months with a Tesla Powerwall 3, you can earn a $150 gift card each quarter – that’s up to $600 in gift cards in a year. You can earn up to $400 per quarter if you export more.
2. Top up your battery for less
If you’re on a time-of-use rate (meaning you pay different rates for electricity at different times), you can charge your battery for less overnight than the rewards you earn for exporting. It’s a simple way that many smart battery owners choose to save money in their sleep.
3. Enjoy flexibility and control
You control how much energy you export and when through a simple app, and there’s no lock in contract. And the rewards you earn? They’re digital prepaid Visa gift cards you can spend on what you want - not just your energy bill - wherever they are accepted online and in-store.
