How it works

AGL's Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program is all about helping to ensure there’s enough energy to go around during periods of high demand – for example, when extreme weather hits. Peak events run for up to two hours and may occur up to eight times during the year. Here’s how they work:

  1. When it looks likely the electricity grid might need some extra support, we’ll remotely pause the electric vehicle charging station.

  2. We’ll send you an SMS to notify you when a peak event is to take place. You will also receive notifications through the Chargefox app at the start and end of a peak event, and can use the app to manage your participation.

  3. After every peak event, we’ll be in touch to let you know the peak event has concluded and the charging station will no longer be paused, and ask for feedback about your experience.


Using the Chargefox app

Your welcome pack contains a link to download the Chargefox app, and your temporary login details. Once you have turned on push notifications within the app, you can use it to manage your participation in peak events. Chargefox also allows you to:

  1. View the current charging status of the charging station.

  2. Remotely switch the charging station on and off via the tap of a button on your phone.

  3. Get near real-time information about charging stations available near you, including rapid chargers.

  4. See the status of your charging session while your car is plugged in, so you know when the car is ready to hit the road again.



How will I be rewarded?

Your $300 financial incentive for signing up will be sent in May, followed by a $30 reward for each peak event you participate in. You will receive your combined rewards for participation around November 2018 and around April 2019.

You’ll receive your rewards in the form of a pre-loaded Visa gift card, which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. You can even use it to pay your AGL bill if you’d like.

What happens if I’m eligible for the Managed for You EV program?

After you've registered for the program and accepted the terms and conditions, our supplier's specialist EV installer will be in touch to organise to visit your home and verify your smart meter and switchboard for installation of a Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox charging station.

If your home is compatible, the EV installer will complete the installation of the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox charging station, at the same time as the site inspection. We will also provide you with details on how to set up ChargeFox electric vehicle management app on your smartphone.


What is the size of the Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox?

The product height is 480 mm, width 330 mm and 170 mm deep and weighs 7.7 kg.

Do I need to sync anything with my smartphone in the Managed for You program?

If your air conditioner is compatible, we'll help you set up the smart air conditioner controller app on your smartphone and connect it to your device. This can be done during the home visit.

For Managed for You EV participants, we can help you set up the ChargeFox electric vehicle management app on your smartphone and connect it to your device during simple to follow instructions. We'll also send details in your welcome email post installation.


How long will installation take for the Managed for You EV program?

We suggest you allow up to two hours for the home visit. Once we've successfully completed the compatibility inspection we will proceed with the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox installation. We will endeavour to make it as quick as possible.


Do I need to be home for the device installation in the Managed for You program?

Yes. However, if you are unable to attend then an adult member of the house with your written authority will need to be home during the home visit.

How will I know when my EV charging station will be paused?

Between April 2018 and 31 March 2019, we'll notify Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You participants via SMS and the ChargeFox app when the electricity grid is experiencing high demand, known as a “peak event” or we're running a simulation.

The SMS and push notification will be sent approximately 24 hours in advance of the event, with details of the peak event (e.g. Tuesday 4-6pm). During this two-hour window we will pause your electric vehicle charging station from charging – without any action required on your behalf. To be eligible for a reward you will need to participate for the full period of the event.

An SMS will be sent to you at the start and end of the event as well as notifications from your ChargeFox EV management platform. We'll then send a post event survey to collect feedback on your experience.

The peak event may be cancelled up to one hour before, but we'll send you a cancellation SMS if that happens.


How will you remotely control my Smart Wallbox settings during a peak event?

In the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program, during the specific peak event, AGL will remotely control the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox station by sending a signal to the charging station which will automatically pause the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox from charging your electric vehicle, if it is plugged in.At the end of each peak event, we'll send a signal to the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox to change your settings back to the mode it was in before. Don't worry, we'll make sure the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox is always returned to working as it was before the peak event. We'll only control the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox during the peak event, unless you opt out.

I have an electric vehicle. What will be installed for the Managed for You program?

We'll install a Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox for your electric vehicle with modem and separate charging cable. You will need to also download the ChargeFox Electric Vehicle management app. Your installer will provide details when they're onsite and we'll send full details in our welcome email. No other devices are required.

What will happen to my old charging station when it's removed?

We'll leave your old charging station once removed for your potential future use.


Do I have to participate in each peak event in the Peak Energy Rewards program?

No. If you do not want to participate in a specific peak event in the Managed for You program, you can opt out by emailing peakenergyrewards@agl.com.au or calling our customer service number on 1300 025 928 from 8.30am to 6pm AEST Mon – Fri. We'll remove you from that specific event.

For the Managed for You EV program, you can opt out before and during the event via the ChargeFox electric vehicle management app. If you'd like to speak to one of our team for queries or to opt out, call our EV customer service team from 9am to 5pm on 1300 001 515.

Please note you won't receive the participation incentive if you opt out. We encourage you to send these requests as early as possible so that they reach us in time for us to remove the adjustments as quickly as possible. We will endeavour to undertake the changes as soon as we receive notification from you.


I’m not at home during the peak event time, how can I participate?

You don't need to be at home or for your air conditioner to be operating during a peak event to participate. We would ask you to please indicate that you weren't home in our post event survey. Please note holiday homes do not meet eligibility criteria.

For Managed for You EV participants, you don't need to be at home for the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox to be operating during a peak event to participate. You'll still receive your participation incentive unless you actively opt out via ChargeFox app, email or phone.


What if I return home with my electric vehicle during a peak event?

In the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program, if you return home and plug in your electric vehicle it will not charge unless you have opted out of the peak event.


Who can participate in AGL’s Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You EV program?

The AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program is available to existing AGL customers with an electric vehicle who meet all the additional criteria.

Participation in the program will not affect your broader AGL electricity plans or rates.


Do I need to be an AGL customer to be in the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program?

Yes. In the first year.

The AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program is only available to existing AGL electricity customers with a digital smart meter and who meet all the additional criteria.

The AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You EV program is only available to existing AGL electricity customers with an electric vehicle and who meet all the additional criteria.

What is the Peak Energy Rewards program?

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) jointly announced pilot projects, which were awarded funding under the demand response initiative, to help manage electricity supply during extreme peaks. The NSW Government also joined to support the initiative in New South Wales.Over three years, the pilot projects will be trialled across Australia to explore new ways of improving energy grid stability.Our Electric Vehicle Managed for You program will be specifically trialling electric vehicles.

What is the AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You EV program?

The AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program is a pilot program which is testing new ways to reduce demand on the electricity grid to help ensure there's enough energy for everyone, when it's needed.

Between April 2018 and 31 March 2019, when the electricity grid is experiencing high demand, we'll notify pilot participants that a “peak event” will occur.

After we install a new Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox we'll remotely pause it charging your electric vehicle during a peak event. Each peak event will run for up to two hours. You can opt out of each peak event:

  • before or during the event if you choose via the ChargeFox electric vehicle management app, which you can download to your smartphone. All the details of how to configure your ChargeFox electric vehicle management platform will be sent in your welcome pack, including how to opt out of peak events;
  • you can also opt out up to four hours prior to the event by contacting the Electric Vehicles team from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday on 1300 001 515.

After each peak event, the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox will automatically be returned to its previous power use.

In return for your participation in the entire two-hours of each peak event you'll receive financial rewards. Combined financial rewards for your participation will be sent in November 2018 and April 2019.


Why control electric vehicle charging in the Managed for You program?

We're hoping electric vehicles will help us understand how we can test new ways of improving the electricity grid's stability in the long term.

How can I opt out of a peak event?

You can opt out from participating in the pilot program, or from any peak event by emailing peakenergyrewards@agl.com.au or phoning customer service on 1300 025 928 between 8.30am and 6pm AEST Monday to Friday.

For customers with an electric vehicle, you can opt out from participating in the pilot program, or from any peak event via the ChargeFox EV charging app. If you'd like to speak to one of our team, you can call our Electric Vehicle team on 1300 001 515 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We encourage you to send these requests as early as possible so that they reach us in time for us to remove the adjustments as quickly as possible. We will endeavour to undertake the changes as soon as we receive notification from you.


How many peak events will run each year in the Managed for You EV program?

Each peak event will run up to maximum of two hours and you will need to participate for the full event to be eligible for a reward. There will be a maximum of eight peak events during the first year of the trial.

We may also be in touch to run a simulation event to gain learnings from the program throughout the trial which you'll also receive financial rewards for and is included in the total eight events.


How can I earn financial rewards in the Managed for You program?

Once you've registered to participate, we've confirmed your eligibility, and installed the devices at your premises, you'll receive an initial $300 financial incentive for signing up.

For Managed for You EV participants, we'll confirm your eligibility and then send our specialist EV installer supplier to install the Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox at your premises.

For each peak event that you participate in, you'll receive an additional $30 reward. We won't schedule more than eight peak events during the year, so if you participate in every potential peak event you could receive up to $240 in rewards.


How will I receive my Peak Energy Rewards financial reward?

If all devices are installed in your home successfully, we'll send your initial $300 sign up Visa gift card to your listed residential address in April 2018.

For Managed for You EV participants, if the Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox is installed in your home by our specialist EV installers, we'll send your initial $300 sign up Visa gift card to your listed residential address in or around April 2018.

You will receive confirmation of your final combined Visa gift card incentive amount from participating in the peak events throughout the term in or around November 2018 and April 2019. Details will not be available on your AGL bill.


Can I receive bill credits for my Peak Energy Rewards financial reward?

No. As we're running a pilot program, all incentives will be paid via Visa gift cards in or around November 2018 and April 2019, which can be used anywhere Visa cards are accepted. You can also use your Visa gift card to pay your AGL bill.

How long will the Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You pilot last?

The first year of the AGL Peak Energy Rewards Managed for You program runs from 31 March 2018 until 31 March 2019.


What if I no longer want to participate in the Peak Energy Rewards program?

If you have registered but no longer want to participate in the Peak Energy Rewards program prior to 31 March 2018, you can email peakenergyrewards@agl.com.au.

After your hardware has been installed, you can opt out of the program by emailing peakenergyrewards@agl.com.au or calling AGL 1300 025 928 between 8.30am and 6pm AEST Monday to Friday.

Any devices which we have installed will need to be returned. We'll organise an installer to come to your home to uninstall these.

For participants with an electric vehicle

If you have registered but no longer want to participate in the Peak Energy Rewards program prior to 31 March 2018, you can email ElectricCarPlan@agl.com.au

After your charging station has been installed, you can opt out of the program by emailing ElectricCarPlan@agl.com.au or calling AGL's Electric Vehicle team on 1300 001 515 between 9am and 5pm AEST Monday to Friday. We'll need to organise a time to come and uninstall the Schneider Smart Wallbox as you are no longer a participant.

To opt out of individual events, you can simply notify us via the ChargeFox EV app – we'll send configuration details for the ChargeFox in your welcome pack. Or you can call us at least four hours prior to the event, if it is between 9am and 5pm AEST Monday to Friday.


Will I have to return my Schneider EVlink Smart Wallbox if I opt out during year one?

Yes, we will need the Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox returned if you opt out prior to the end of year one. We'll organise an installer to come to your home to uninstall these.

What happens if I move while participating in the Peak Energy Rewards program?

If you're planning on moving, please contact us and let us know your future address. If it's in NSW, we can check if your new property has a digital meter and if your new air conditioner is still eligible to participate.

If you have an electric vehicle, we can also discuss the potential options for moving your Schneider EVLink Smart Wallbox to your new property.
