AGL today will launch its campaign to gain up to half a million new electricity customers in NSW.

AGL is already winning new customers 'organically' in NSW at an annualised rate of more than 80,000, including more than 42,000 new customers in the six months to 31 December 2010.

The company expects to increase the existing growth rate significantly with the launch of an aggressive sales and marketing campaign in NSW utilising many channels and delivering value to consumers.

The campaign offers NSW residents who switch to AGL savings on their electrcitiy bill of $3001 over the next three years, compared to the regulated tariff. Large power users have the potential to make even greater savings.

David Hamilton, General Manager Marketing, said AGL research showed that many customers in regional NSW did not know they could switch retailers.

"The vast majority of people living in the country thought they had no choice. We intend to educate people about the fact that they can choose their retailer and by making this great offer, help them save money by switching to AGL," Mr Hamilton said.

"We are the underdog in NSW electricity retailing now so we will be out there aggressively competing for people's business," said Mr Hamilton.

AGL has previously announced it intends to acquire between 400,000 and 500,000 new customers from the incumbent retailers in NSW, Energy Australia, Integral Energy and Country Energy, which between them hold 85% of electricity customer accounts in NSW.

"We encourage people to take advantage of our best offer by going online to save. You can switch and save in minutes by going to www.agl.com.au/switchandsave," he said.

1 3 year contract. Savings amount consists of a one-off credit and an ongoing usage charge discount applied to each bill. Based on a NSW residential electricity customer with an average usage of 5.6 MWh p.a., annual pre-discount bill of $1269 (inc GST) and regulated rates as at Jan 2011. Offer unavailable in some areas.
