The Victorian Government introduced a new Transitional Feed-in Tariff
(TFiT) to replace the Premium Feed-in Tariff
(PFiT), due to the Premium Feed-in Tariff scheme capacity of 100 megawatts being reached.
Eligible customers with small scale solar PV systems can now apply for the new Transitional Feed-in Tariff. For larger systems, and other types of renewable energy, a Standard Feed-in Tariff is available.
There are now three Victorian feed-in tariffs:
- The Transitional Feed-in Tariff (TFiT)
The Transitional Feed-in Tariff started 1 January 2012 and is open to new applicants.
The Transitional Feed-in Tariff offers properties with small-scale solar PV systems, of up to five kilowatts in size, a guaranteed minimum credit of 25 cents per kWh* for all excess electricity fed back into the grid.
AGL offers an additional 8 cents per kWh* for the Transitional Feed-in-Tariff.
- The Standard Feed-in Tariff (SFiT)
Victoria’s Standard Feed-in Tariff is available to eligible properties generating electricity from wind, solar, hydro and biomass sources with a generation capacity of up to 100 kilowatts.
The Standard Feed-in Tariff allows eligible customers to receive a payment rate for any excess electricity they feed back into the state’s electricity grid.
- The Premium Feed-in Tariff (PFiT)
The Premium Feed-in Tariff scheme was closed to new applicants on 29 December 2011.

It all adds up.
In Victoria, your potential earnings are calculated using the net metering system. Under this system only the electricity in excess of what you use is fed into the grid, and you’re paid a feed–in tariff per kWh for this electricity.
Over time, the advantages of generating solar power can really work for you. Especially when you’re with AGL.
- With solar power you could draw less electricity from the grid, because the electricity your system generates can help power your home. And less electricity from the grid can mean less on your bill.
- At times your home may generate more electricity than your home requires, which is fed into the grid.
- With AGL, you’ll receive 8 cents per kWh* for the Transitional Feed-in-tariff, in addition to the minimum government feed-in tariff amount1. So your solar power system could help reduce your electricity bill.
* All amounts shown are GST exclusive. Any premium applied by AGL in addition to the government’s feed-in tariff may be subject to change.
1 Subject to site eligibility for the Victorian Government Premium Solar Feed-in Tariff Scheme. The government’s feed-in tariff may be subject to change without notice. Any premium applied by AGL in addition to the government’s feed-in tariff may be subject to change.
