NSW Greenhouse Abatement Certificates
The NSW State Government has set up the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced in NSW. Specific activities that result in a reduction of greenhouse gases are recognised through NSW Greenhouse Abatement Certificates (NGACs).
When you switch from an electric to a gas hot water system, you reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced by your home and become eligible for NGACs (the warranty on the Storage Cylinder and/or Heat Exchanger must be more than 8 years).

If you transfer your right to create these NGACs to AGL, AGL will reward you with a payment. Check in-store at your local AGL Energy Shop or with your AGL installer to find out the value of your NGACs.
To receive your payment from AGL, just follow these four steps:
- Replace your electric hot water system with a gas hot water system (the installation site must be within NSW);
- Fill in an NGAC Assignment Declaration Form available from your AGL installer;
- Complete either Section A or Section B of the attached form;
- Return both forms to your AGL installer (who will also have a Certificate of Compliance for your installation).
That way you can enjoy the benefits of a lower cost natural gas hot water system right now. While everyone else can enjoy the benefits of your choice for many, many years to come.
