Reducing Emissions from corporate operations

Welcome to AGL > The Environment > Climate change > Reducing Emissions from corporate operations

AGL is committed to neutralising all greenhouse gas emissions associated with electricity consumption in our offices across Australia.  While this represents a small part of our overall greenhouse footprint it is a source of emissions that is associated with nearly all our employees, and is one which demonstrates the breadth of our company footprint.

This is achieved by purchasing a combination of AGL Green Energy™ and AGL Green Balance™ electricity, as well as purchasing Greenhouse Friendly™ Certificates to neutralise emissions from facilities where we are unable to purchase AGL Green Power™ or AGL Green Balance™ directly.

Office energy efficiency

AGL incorporates energy efficiency considerations into the design of new offices. Energy efficiency was a key consideration in refitting our new corporate offices in St Leonards, Sydney, where we relocated in September 2005. Some of the significant upgrades made included installing a new energy efficient lighting systems, upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and including features like solar controlled blinds to reduced heat load and glare.

Reducing emissions from our fleet

AGL encourage staff to offset greenhouse gas emissions from their personal vehicles. All colleagues who are allocated a car space for non-company vehicles at our corporate office in St Leonards are asked to offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their annual fuel use through a subscription to GreenFleet.

AGL annually offsets a portion of the greenhouse gas emissions from our fleet through the purchase of abatement.
